3-Day Sukhothai Historical Park Tour with Si Satchanalai

Take a 90-minute early flight with Bangkok Airways, the only airline operating service to Sukhothai.

Arrive at Sukhothai Airport, set amid a rice field landscape and considered one of the most beautiful domestic airports in Thailand.

Transfer to the hotel by private air-conditioned car.

In the afternoon, begin with a visit to the magnificent artifacts of Sukhothai at the "Ramkhamhaeng National Museum" [closed on Mon-Tue].

Continue to the neighboring Sukhothai Historical Park. This vast historical complex covers 70 sq. km. or 27 sq. mi. Many locals come here to pay respects to the monument of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great, who invented the Thai alphabet in 1283.

Visit the remains of the lotus-bud prang of Wat Mahatat, which served as the royal temple of the Sukhothai royal palace. A sacred Buddha image named "Achana," meaning unmovable, presides over the most photographed Wat Si Chum, one of Sukhothai's iconic tourist attractions.

Depart at 9 am to visit Si Satchanalai Historical Park, approximately a 40-minute drive north of Sukhothai Historical Park. Si Satchanalai served as a secondary center of the Sukhothai Kingdom, spread across some 200 acres on the bank of the Yom River, and it remains a quiet place with an undisturbed atmosphere.

Visit Wat Chang Lom, a huge bell-shaped Ceylonese-style chedi supported by ruined laterite elephant pedestals.

Head to Wat Chedi Chet Thaew and see seven rows of ruined lotus-bud chedis.

Stop by Wat Nang Phaya, which features well-preserved floral stucco reliefs.

See Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahatat Chaliang, and have lunch at a local restaurant by the river.

On the return journey, visit the shops of Sangkhalok glazed wares, famous for local pottery handcrafted in Sukhothai style, as well as gold and silver antique ornaments.

After a long day of sightseeing, try a local massage retreat somewhere close to the hotel.
