• Amritsar, in northern Punjab state, northwestern India, lies about 15 miles (25 km) east of the border with Pakistan. It is the largest and most important city in Punjab and a major commercial, cultural, and transportation centre. It is also the centre of Sikhism and the site of the Sikhs' principal place of worship, the Harmandir Sahib, or Golden Temple.
• Please note:
  • The best time to visit Amritsar is from November to March. After this, the temperature rises gradually. It is also the coldest place in winter in the entire Punjab, so adequate warm clothing should be carried while visiting.
  • Villages surround Amritsar. People are good and helpful. It's a peaceful town and a foodie's paradise too.
