4-Day Orangutan House Boat Tour in Tanjung Puting National Park

• Upon arrival in Pangkalan Bun, you will be met and transferred to Kumai to board the Kelotok.

• As you leave the Kumai River, you will have the opportunity to observe daily riverfront life. Borneo has many rivers, so boats remain one of the main forms of transportation here.

• You may also see the tall swiftlet nesting houses with tiny holes, where semi-wild swift birds build nests that are later harvested.

• Then, cruise to the Sekonyer River, an estuarine habitat with unique mangrove vegetation, before making your first stop at Tanjung Harapan Camp to watch orangutan feeding at 15:00.

• Along the riverbanks, look out for wildlife such as the Proboscis monkey - an endemic monkey of Borneo - as well as Long-tailed macaques, Red leaf monkeys, Silvered langurs, and birdlife along the riverside.

• After watching the orangutans, continue cruising downstream to look for groups of Proboscis monkeys, another endemic primate of Borneo.

• The crew will look for a good place to anchor the boat and spend the night on the Kelotok beneath the fireflies. If the weather is good, with no rain or wind, you may see millions of fireflies glowing like a Christmas tree, although this cannot be guaranteed. We will do our best to find the best possible place.

• After breakfast at sunrise, continue cruising upriver.

• You will have time to relax, enjoy the fresh air, or do some primate spotting in the roosting trees while the boat looks for a good place to tie up.

• Your next destination is Camp Leakey, the legendary Orangutan Rehabilitation Camp, where Prof. Birute M.F. Galdikas began her study in early 1971.

• You will also boat through a side creek with tea-colored water, where the vegetation along the river creates magnificent reflections. If you are lucky, you may also spot a freshwater crocodile and other wildlife along the riverbanks.

• After lunch and arrival at Camp Leakey, spend the rest of the day hiking through the Borneo rainforest and exploring peat swamp forest and lowland dipterocarp habitat. Search for wildlife or enjoy the variety of fungi, orchids, slipper orchids, mosses, and ferns before attending orangutan feeding time at 2:00 pm.

Stay overnight on the boat. Meals provided: B, L, D.

* Canoeing may be provided on the second day before visiting Camp Leakey.

* You may also choose to stay overnight on the black water river and join a night trek at Pondok Ambung Research Station to look for nocturnal wildlife.

• After breakfast, the boat will travel to Pondok Tanggui.

• Orangutan feeding takes place at 09:00 in the morning. This is a beautiful place, and even if the orangutans do not always come to the feeding platform during fruiting season, this is actually excellent news for ecotourism.

• It means the orangutans prefer natural food and are able to survive in the jungle.

• After watching the orangutans, continue to Tanjung Harapan, the first station, to see orangutan feeding again at 15:00. The journey between Pondok Tanggui and Tanjung Harapan is also ideal for wildlife spotting during the slow cruise. Sleep overnight in Pesalat.

• Optional activities will be offered after visiting the Orangutan Feeding Camp, and you can choose what you would like to do.

* Take a 2-hour trek in Pondok Tanggui after watching the orangutan feeding.

* Visit Sekonyer Village, walk around, and go canoeing into the Sekonyer River and village.

* Repeat the visit to the Orangutan Feeding Camp in Tanjung Harapan.

• After breakfast, you will take a short trek along the wooden jetty and visit a forest tree nursery.

• After planting a tree, return to the boat and enjoy your coffee while exploring the river in the morning.

• You may see orangutans foraging in the trees along the riverbank, offering an incredible experience. Long-snouted crocodiles are also often seen basking in the sun on the riverbank when the weather is very good. Lunch will be served on the boat.

• Depart Kumai in the afternoon and transfer to Pangkalan Bun hotel or airport. Before continuing to your next destination, it may be possible to visit our orangutan souvenir and handicraft gallery.
