4-Day Mount Meru Trek from Arusha with Socialist Peak Sunrise

• Head to Arusha National Park and drive a bit further to Momella Gate (1500 m), where the climb begins.

• Walk through the grassy plains and enjoy occasional views of Mount Kilimanjaro to your right.

• After a few hours of trekking, reach the first campsite, Miriakamba Hut (2500 m). Here, you will settle into a dormitory-style room and rest for the day.

Trekking Time: 4-5 hours | Distance: 10 km | Altitude Gain: 1000 m

• Wake up early in the morning for breakfast and begin your trek through fine forests as you head to Saddle Hut (3500 m), where you will spend the evening and rest.

• In the afternoon, relax in the hut or go on a one-hour trek to Little Meru (3801 m), where you will enjoy beautiful views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the sunset.

Trekking Time: 3-4 hours | Distance: 8 km | Altitude Gain: 1000 m

• Wake up at 1:00 AM, have breakfast, and begin your ascent towards the summit.

• Upon arrival at Rhino Point (3800 m), the trek becomes more difficult as you encounter rocky ground and narrow ridges.

• You will reach the summit, Socialist Peak (4562 m), at around 6:00 AM. Enjoy the sunrise and take pictures.

• Descend to Miriakamba Hut via Saddle Hut, where you will relax for one hour and have breakfast.

Trekking Time: 4-6 hours | Distance: 5 km | Altitude Gain: 1062 m

Dinner and overnight stay at Miriakamba Hut.

Trekking Time: 5-7 hours | Distance: 13 km | Altitude Loss: 2062 m

• Descend through grassy plains, where you have a high chance of spotting wildlife such as Colobus monkeys, buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs, hippos, zebras, elephants, and other animals.

• Arrive at the park gate, receive your certificate of completion, and drive back to your hotel in Arusha.
