11-Day Wakhan Corridor and Little Pamir Expedition

Day 1 | Tajikistan Border - Kunduz - Faizabad

Begin the journey by crossing from Tajikistan into Afghanistan. After completing immigration and visa formalities, meet your Afghan guide and driver before beginning the scenic drive east toward Badakhshan Province.

The road gradually climbs into the mountains as you follow the Kokcha River toward Faizabad, the provincial capital and gateway to the Wakhan Corridor.

  • Driving Time: Approximately 5 hours
  • Overnight: Guesthouse in Faizabad

Day 2 | Faizabad - Ishkashim

Travel through spectacular mountain scenery to the historic border town of Ishkashim, where the Afghan Wakhan begins.

Upon arrival, complete the required Wakhan permits and registrations, followed by time to purchase supplies, snacks, and any last-minute essentials before entering one of Afghanistan's most remote regions.

  • Driving Time: Approximately 4 hours
  • Altitude: 2,600 m
  • Accommodation: Guesthouse (shared bathroom, hot water)

Day 3 | Ishkashim - Khandud - Qala-e-Panj

Drive alongside the Panj River with magnificent views toward Tajikistan while passing traditional Wakhi villages and fertile green valleys beneath towering snow-capped peaks.

En route:

  • Visit Khandud to complete local registration formalities.
  • Enjoy continuous views toward Noshaq, Afghanistan's highest mountain (7,492 m).

Arrive in Qala-e-Panj, an important settlement deep within the Wakhan Valley.

Along the journey:

  • Visit the famous Bibi Fatima Hot Springs, a centuries-old natural thermal spring treasured by local communities.
