Maun Arrival and Fly-In Safari to Moremi and Khwai

Day 1 | Maun - Moremi Game Reserve, Xakanaxa/3rd Bridge Area

Distance: Game drives

A warm welcome awaits you at Maun Airport upon arrival. Soon after, you catch a light aircraft flight directly to the Moremi Game Reserve. During the flight, you will enjoy fantastic views of the beautiful landscapes of the Okavango Delta and Chief's Island below. Your destination is the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta, where the landscape is dominated by wetlands, floodplains, grasslands, and wooded forests. Once you land, you will be met by your safari guide and enjoy an outdoor picnic lunch.

Afterward, you head out on your first game drive as you make your way toward your mobile safari camp. Located in the heart of the wildlife action, your camp serves as the ideal base for your upcoming safari activities. It also offers a level of comfort not usually experienced on a camping safari. A comfortable bed awaits you in your walk-in mobile safari tent, complete with a private en-suite bathroom and your very own hot water bucket shower. Make yourself at home, enjoy a sundowner, and savor a delicious meal prepared by the camp kitchen. In the evening, you can sit around the campfire and soak in the natural ambience around you.

Day 2 | Moremi Game Reserve, Xakanaxa/3rd Bridge Area

Distance: Game drives

You will wake up early on your mobile safari, as it is during the early morning hours that the animals are most active. Accompanied by your skilled safari guide and traveling in an open-view safari vehicle, you explore the Moremi Game Reserve. The reserve is rich in wildlife and provides a vital sanctuary to many threatened species. On your game drive, you may very well encounter elephant, hippo, buffalo, crocodile, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and a host of uncommon antelope species such as roan, sable, tsessebe, red lechwe, and perhaps even the rare sitatunga. Where there is this much wildlife, predators are usually not far away, and Moremi is known to regularly provide quality sightings of lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and even African wild dogs. With the reintroduction of the rhino, the reserve now even boasts every member of the Big Five. After hopefully plenty of wildlife sightings on your morning game drive, you return to camp for some downtime and perhaps a little nap before lunch. In the afternoon, you head out for another game drive and more safari action. Another delicious dinner awaits you in the evening, followed by a good night's rest in your comfortable bed.

Day 3 - 5 | Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai Area

After an early breakfast, you travel to your next safari destination, the Khwai Area within the Moremi Game Reserve. With possible wildlife sightings along the way, it is worth always being on the lookout. Your guide has well-trained eyes and may even teach you some tricks to help you spot animals. You spend the following three nights in this fantastic area of floodplains, wetlands, and grasslands inside the Moremi Game Reserve, named after the Khwai River.

During your stay here, you can explore the region in a very unique way, namely in a traditional dugout canoe called a "mokoro," with a local poler expertly gliding you through the maze of waterways. This silent form of transport is not only idyllic, but also perfect for anyone wishing to drift right up close to some of the many amazing bird species that call this region home. On numerous game drives over the course of your stay, you can learn more about the fascinating ecosystem found in the Khwai region, and in the evenings, you can enjoy enchanting night skies and relax in your beautiful surroundings.
