The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Antananarivo

  • Arrival at Ivato International Airport and reception by the Charles Travel Madagascar Agency Tours team with meet-and-greet assistance.
  • Complete customs formalities and receive guidance from the guide for the arrival process, including currency exchange.
  • Transfer directly to the hotel in Antananarivo for check-in.

Day 02

Antananarivo to Antsirabe via Ambatolampy

  • After breakfast, depart from Antananarivo at 08:00 AM and drive to Antsirabe.
  • Stop at Ambatolampy, around 70 km from the capital, and visit the aluminium workshop where locals craft pots, pans, and traditional items from recycled aluminium.
  • Explore the local market, interact with artisans, and take photos of the scenic surroundings, including villages and rice fields.
  • Continue the journey to Antsirabe, approximately 100 km from Ambatolampy, enjoying views of the highlands and small towns.
  • Arrive in Antsirabe at 04:00 PM and check in at the hotel.
  • Take an optional short city tour to see colourful rickshaws, colonial buildings, local craft shops, Independence Avenue, Hotel des Thermes, the stone market, and a horn factory.
  • Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 03

Lake Tritriva and Onward to Miandrivazo

  • After breakfast around 09:00 AM, drive from Antsirabe to visit Lake Tritriva, featuring volcanic landscapes and emerald waters.
  • Spend free time admiring the peaceful atmosphere, taking photos, and enjoying views of the site, located about 23 km west of Antsirabe.
  • Have an optional picnic lunch at the lake.
  • Continue through changing landscapes from the cool highlands to warmer and drier regions.
  • Pass traditional villages, rice fields, and savannah scenery along the way.
  • Arrive in Miandrivazo around 06:00 PM and check in at the hotel for an overnight stay.

Miandrivazo to Kirindy Forest Reserve

  • After an early breakfast at 07:00 AM, depart towards Kirindy Forest, a dry deciduous forest known for its unique wildlife.
  • Enjoy scenic landscapes including baobab trees, savannahs, and traditional villages.
  • Arrive at Kirindy Forest Reserve in the afternoon and check in at the lodge.
  • Have lunch at the lodge.
  • Take a guided afternoon walk to explore the forest and spot species such as fossa, lemurs, chameleons, and birds.

Kirindy Forest to Bekopaka

  • Cross the Tsiribihina River by local ferry to reach Bekopaka.
  • Arrive in Bekopaka in the late afternoon and check in at the lodge.

Full-Day Exploration of Tsingy de Bemaraha

  • After breakfast, spend the full day exploring Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park.

  • Walk across suspension bridges, limestone pinnacles, and scenic viewpoints.
  • Discover the fauna and flora of the area and hike to the famous peaks.
  • Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park.
  • Return to the hotel in the afternoon.

Antsirabe to Antananarivo

  • After breakfast, check out at 09:00 AM and begin the journey back to Antananarivo.
  • Enjoy the scenic drive through the highlands with views of villages, rice paddies, and rolling hills.
  • Stop at local artisan workshops to see crafts such as zebu horn products, embroidery, and gemstones.
  • Have lunch in Behenjy, known for foie gras and duck dishes.
  • Continue the drive to Antananarivo and arrive in the late afternoon.

  • Cash & Payments - Most rural areas, lodges, and local vendors do not accept credit/debit cards. It is highly recommended to exchange or withdraw cash at Antananarivo airport or, at the latest, in Morondava. Carry small bills for easier transactions.
  • Accommodation & Amenities - Lodges and hotels in remote areas may have basic facilities.
  • Hot water and electricity may be limited in some locations.
