Take a 4-day trek across Ijen and Malang, combining volcanic landscapes, sunrise hikes, and a crater-lake camping experience. Hike to the summit and crater of Mt Ijen to watch the sunrise, then continue to Cemorolawang for an early climb to Mt Penanjakan overlooking Mt Bromo. Travel across the Tengger caldera past Mt Bromo and Mt Widodaren to the village of Ranupane, and complete the journey with a trek to the crater lake of Ranu Kumbolo.

The itinerary

Day 01

Meeting Service and Transfer to Paltuding

Meeting service in Surabaya, Probolinggo, or Ketapang ferry berth.
Pick-up by minibus.
Drive to the Ijen highland.

Day 02

Ijen Crater Trek and Transfer to Cemorolawang

01.30 am - Arrive at Paltuding. Park the car and prepare to hike up to the Ijen crater.
02.30 am - Hike up to the Ijen crater rim.
04.00 am - Arrive at the Ijen crater rim and continue hiking down into the crater.
04.30 am - Arrive at the crater. Take plenty of pictures and enjoy the scenery.
05.30 am - Hike back up to the Ijen crater rim, then continue down to Paltuding.
07.00 am - Arrive at Paltuding, rest, and have breakfast at a warung.
09.00 am - Drive to Ngadisari, Cemorolawang.
02.00 pm - Arrive at Cemorolawang and rest. Lunch and dinner at a warung.
Stay overnight at Yoga or Villa Udin.

Day 03

Bromo Sunrise, Ranupane, and Trek to Ranu Kumbolo

02.00 am - Drive to Seruni Point. Park the car, then hike up the Seruni trail to Mt. Penanjakaan, 2700 m asl.
04.00 am - Arrive at Mt. Penanjakan and watch the sunrise.
06.30 am - Return to Cemorolawang for breakfast.
08.00 am - Drive down to the base of the Tengger caldera by 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser, around Mt. Bromo and Mt. Widodaren, up to Jemplang intersection, then down to the vast farming village of Ranupane.
10.00 am - Arrive at Ranupane, rest, and take a lunch break at Tasrip Homestay.
11.00 am - Trek to Ranu Kumbolo.
03.00 pm - Arrive at Ranu Kumbolo. Time to rest, enjoy a coffee break, and stay overnight in tented accommodation.
07.00 pm - Dinner by the lake (Ranu).

Day 04

Return from Ranu Kumbolo to Ranupane and Malang

08.00 am - After breakfast, return to Ranupane via Mt. Ayeg-Ayeg.
12.00 pm - Arrive at Ranupane and take a lunch break at Tasrip Homestay.
01.00 pm - Return to Malang via Ngadas and Gubuk Klakah. Drop by Coban Pelangi.
04.00 pm - Arrive in Malang. Transfer to the bus or train station, or continue with other trip arrangements.
