08:00 AM: Depart from your hotel in Almaty and begin a scenic drive across the steppe towards Altyn Emel National Park.
Travel approximately 250 kilometres to reach Basshi Village, the main gateway settlement of the national park.
12:00 PM: Arrive at Basshi Village and enjoy a traditional lunch before continuing the expedition.
02:00 PM: Drive across the rugged landscapes of the park towards the famous Singing Dune.
03:00 PM: Explore the massive sand dune and learn about the natural phenomenon that produces a deep humming sound when the sand shifts.
Walk across the dune and enjoy sweeping views of the desert and steppe landscapes surrounding the area.
06:00 PM: Travel to a local guest house in Basshi Village, enjoy dinner, and relax after a day of exploration.

Day 02

Aktau and Katutau Mountain Discovery

08:00 AM: Enjoy breakfast at the guest house before continuing your journey through the national park.

What to bring

Clothing - The steppe is unpredictable. Mornings can be chilly, mid-days scorching, and the wind is a constant companion.
Lightweight, breathable layers: Think long-sleeved linen or synthetic shirts that offer sun protection but let the air flow.
Windbreaker or light jacket: Essential for the mornings and evenings, or for when you climb to the top of the Singing Dunes.
Sturdy closed-toe shoes: You will be walking on sand, volcanic rock, and uneven trails. Your feet need support, not flip-flops.

Reusable water bottle: Stay hydrated. Your guide will provide water, but you will want a personal bottle for the hikes.

Know before you go

Off the grid: we operate in deep, remote wilderness. There is no signal or internet during the daily tour route. We reconnect with the outside world only upon arrival at the guest house.
