Day 01

Seven Lakes Adventure from Samarkand

• Morning departure at 07:00 with hotel pick-up in Samarkand.
• Drive to the Uzbekistan-Tajikistan border at the Jartepa crossing.
• Border crossing. A passport and Tajikistan e-visa are required if applicable.
• Arrival in Tajikistan, where you will meet your local guide and 4x4 driver.
• Short stop in Panjakent, with time for the bazaar or Sarazm if time allows.
• The Seven Lakes experience begins.
• Drive through the Shing Valley and visit each lake:
• Mijgon Lake - emerald green waters.
• Soya Lake - calm and reflective.
• Gushor Lake - deep blue in colour.
• Nofin Lake - surrounded by dramatic cliffs.
• Khurdak Lake - the smallest and very scenic.
• Marguzor Lake - the most famous turquoise lake, with a picnic or lunch stop.
• Hazorchashma Lake - enjoy a short, easy hike of 30-45 minutes to the seventh lake with panoramic views.
• Activities during the visit include scenic photography stops at each lake.
• Short nature walks and light hiking.

Know before you go

• This is a full-day trip of approximately 9 to 11 hours, including mountain road driving and an optional easy 30 to 45 minute round-trip hike to the seventh lake.
• A passport is required for the Uzbekistan and Tajikistan border crossing. A Tajikistan e-visa may be required depending on nationality and should be arranged in advance.
• Fitness level is moderate, with mostly driving and light walking. No strenuous trekking unless choosing a longer hike.
• The best travel period is May to October, when roads are open and the lakes are most colourful. Winter travel is not recommended.
• Border crossing is generally smooth with guide assistance but may take between 30 and 90 minutes depending on queues.
• Carry small cash notes, as ATM and card facilities are limited in the mountains.
• Dress modestly in villages and always ask permission before photographing local people.
• Expect warm sunny days and cooler temperatures in the shade or late afternoon, so layered clothing is advisable.
• Swimming is not permitted in the lakes due to cold temperatures and environmental protection regulations.
