The Gosaikunda Lake Trek is an ideal short trekking adventure for travelers with limited time who wish to experience the natural beauty and spiritual significance of Nepal’s Himalayas. Located in the Langtang region, Gosaikunda Lake is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for both Hindu and Buddhist devotees, attracting thousands of visitors every year, especially during the Janai Purnima festival.
This scenic trek takes you through lush rhododendron, oak, and pine forests, rich in wildlife and alpine vegetation. The trail passes through peaceful mountain villages, monasteries, suspension bridges, and high ridges, offering insight into the daily life and culture of the local communities. If you are fortunate, you may even spot the endangered Red Panda while trekking through Langtang National Park.
Situated at an altitude of 4,380 meters, Gosaikunda Lake is the source of the Trishuli River and is surrounded by dramatic Himalayan landscapes. Along the route, trekkers encounter several beautiful alpine lakes such as Bhairav Kunda, Surya Kunda, Saraswati Kunda, Ragat Kunda, Nau Kunda, and Nag Kunda, making the journey visually and spiritually rewarding. The trek also offers spectacular views of the Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Langtang mountain ranges.
The 7-Day Gosaikunda Lake Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche, passing through charming towns such as Kakani, Ranipauwa, Bidur, Trishuli, Betrawati, and Ramche. From Dhunche, the trek ascends through Deurali, Dimsa, Chandanbari (Shin Gompa), Cholangpati, Laurebina, and the Bouddha Temple before reaching the sacred lake. After exploring Gosaikunda and its surrounding lakes, the trek descends back to Dhunche, followed by a return drive to Kathmandu.

Gosaikunda Lake Trek
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m / 4,593ft)
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative from Marvel Treks will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Kathmandu by private vehicle. After check-in, you may rest from your journey or explore nearby cultural attractions in the city. Later in the day, you will meet your trekking guide for a pre-trek briefing, where you will receive detailed information about the Gosaikunda Trek and check any required trekking equipment.

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu (1,400m) to Dhunche (1,960m / 6,430ft)
After breakfast, your journey to the Langtang region begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche, the administrative center of Rasuwa District. Traveling by public bus, you will pass through terraced farmlands, forests, rivers, and traditional villages while following the Trishuli River valley. Upon arrival in Dhunche, enjoy a short walk around the village and interact with the local community.

Today marks the start of your trek. After breakfast, you begin ascending through forests and small settlements. The trail follows Ghatte Khola and gradually climbs to Deurali, then continues through beautiful landscapes dotted with streams and waterfalls before reaching Dhimsa. From here, the ascent becomes steeper as you trek through pine forests toward Chandanbari, also known as Shin Gompa.
This charming village is home to a Buddhist monastery and a famous yak cheese factory, offering insight into the local lifestyle.

After breakfast, the trail ascends steadily along a rocky and narrow mountain path. As the elevation increases, you will pass Cholangpati, where stunning views of Langtang Lirung, Langtang Ri, Ganesh Himal, and Manaslu open up. Continuing onward, you reach Lauribina and then the Buddha Temple.
Beyond this point, you encounter a series of sacred alpine lakes including Saraswati Kunda and Bhairab Kunda, before finally arriving at the revered Gosaikunda Lake. Spend time exploring the surrounding lakes and enjoying the serene mountain environment.

After breakfast, enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Gosaikunda Lake before beginning your descent back to Dhunche. Retracing your route through Lauribina, Cholangpati, Dhimsa, and Deurali, the downhill trek is more relaxed and allows you to fully appreciate the forests, mountain views, and alpine scenery.
Along the way, you may spot wildlife such as Wood Snipe, Snow Partridge, Tibetan Snow Cock, and—if fortunate—the endangered Red Panda.
