Pumdikot Hike with World Peace Pagoda
Boat Ride Across Phewa Lake (15 minutes)
After having breakfast at your hotel, representatives from Marvel Treks will pick you up and take you to Phewa Lake. From here, you board a boat and enjoy a peaceful crossing of the lake. During the boat ride, you can see the beautiful Tal Barahi Temple, located in the middle of Phewa Lake. Although the boat ride lasts only about 15 minutes, you can feel the cool breeze and the refreshing atmosphere created by the calm waters of the lake.
Hiking to the World Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa) – Approximately 1 hour
After crossing Phewa Lake by boat, the first phase of the Pumdikot Hiking from Pokhara begins. The trail is not very difficult but highly enjoyable, as it passes through small villages, lush vegetation, and offers insights into the traditional lifestyle of local people.
Along the way, you will find a few teahouses offering limited food options where you can take a short break if needed. The trail passes through forests with birds chirping, stone-paved steps, and dirt paths, while also offering distant views of mountain peaks.
After nearly one hour, you reach the World Peace Pagoda, a beautiful white stupa situated at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level. This is a significant religious site for Buddhists, holding deep spiritual value. Visitors are kindly requested to respect the sanctity of the place and explore responsibly.
You can walk around the Pagoda, learn about its history, and enjoy spectacular views of the mountains, Pokhara Valley, and Phewa Lake. Spending some quiet time here helps release stress and experience peace, making it an ideal place for reflection and spiritual calm inspired by the teachings of Gautam Buddha.
Hiking from World Peace Pagoda to Pumdikot Hill (1,500 m) – Approximately 1.5 hours
After spending peaceful moments at the World Peace Pagoda, the second phase of the Pumdikot via World Peace Pagoda Day Hike begins. This section is slightly more challenging and is often considered the toughest part of the hike.
Before starting, it is recommended to buy food and water at the World Peace Pagoda. The trail initially follows the same route but gradually ascends toward Mountain View Café. Along the way, you will pass a swing and a small temple after climbing about 500 meters.
At this point, hikers have two options: follow the main trail or take a shortcut that can save around 30 minutes. While confident hikers may choose the shortcut, for safety reasons, ascending via the main trail is recommended. The trail eventually leads to the massive Shiva Statue, the highest point of Pumdikot Hill.
Lord Shiva is regarded as one of the most powerful gods in Hinduism, and this site holds strong religious importance. Visitors are requested to respect local beliefs and behave responsibly. The statue of Lord Shiva, standing 51 feet tall, is a major attraction of Pokhara, drawing devotees and hikers alike. Visitors can also learn about Hindu culture, beliefs, and the historical significance of this place.
Drive Back from Pumdikot to Hotel (30 minutes)
After completing the day hike, many hikers feel exhausted and may not wish to walk back to Phewa Lake. Keeping this in mind, Marvel Treks arranges a comfortable private vehicle for the return journey. The drive from Pumdikot back to your hotel in Pokhara takes approximately 30 minutes, marking the end of a rewarding day hike.
