Day 01

Mount Suswa Crater Rim Camp

  • Meet your dedicated guide at your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

  • Drive west into the Great Rift Valley towards the dormant Mount Suswa volcano.

  • Ascend the sacred volcano and arrive at a scenic campsite on the crater rim.

Lava Caves and Ogiek Traditions in the Mau Forest

What's Included

  • Accommodation: All lodging as specified in the itinerary, including unique stays: fly camping on Mount Suswa, community homestays (Ogiek and Luo), a forest lodge, national park lodges, and a tented camp in Hell's Gate.

  • Meals & Drinks: Full board throughout (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Bottled drinking water is provided daily in the vehicle. All meals during homestays and community visits are included.

  • Transportation: All ground transportation in a custom-designed, pop-top 4x4 safari Land Cruiser with guaranteed window seats. Services of a professional English-speaking driver-guide throughout. All boat transfers as specified (to and from Rusinga Island).

  • Park Fees & Conservation: All applicable national park, game reserve, and conservancy entry fees for the duration of the safari, with the exception of Lake Nakuru National Park.

  • Cultural Experiences & Community Fees: All arranged cultural visits, hosted homestays, and guided community walks. Includes direct contributions to the Ogiek, Luo, and Maasai host communities.

  • Activities: All scheduled activities as per the itinerary, including guided hikes on Mount Suswa and in Hell's Gate, nature walks in the Mau and Kakamega Forests, all specified game drives, and the extensive hike with Maasai warriors.

  • Camping Equipment: For the Mount Suswa fly camp, all necessary camping equipment is provided, including quality dome tents, sleeping mats, camp chairs, and a mess tent. A detailed packing list will advise on personal sleeping bags.

  • Emergency Support: A comprehensive first-aid kit and communications equipment (HF radio or satellite phone) are carried in the vehicle for safety.

What's Not Included

  • Lake Nakuru National Park Fees: All park entry, vehicle, and conservation fees for Lake Nakuru National Park are excluded and payable directly by the client at the gate.

  • International Flights: Airfare to and from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.

  • Visas: Cost of the Kenyan tourist visa, which can be obtained online via the eVisa portal prior to travel.

  • Travel Insurance: Comprehensive medical, evacuation, and trip cancellation insurance is mandatory.

  • Personal Items: Expenses of a personal nature, including laundry, souvenirs, telephone calls, and premium beverages such as spirits or wine unless specified.

  • Optional Activities: Any activities not explicitly mentioned in the itinerary.

  • Sleeping Bags: For the Mount Suswa camping night, guests are required to bring their own sleeping bags. Advice on rating will be provided.

  • Tips & Gratuities: Tips for your driver-guide, camp staff, and community hosts. A guideline for tipping will be provided in your pre-departure information.

  • Pre/Post Safari Accommodation: Overnight accommodation in Nairobi before the start or after the end of the safari, unless explicitly booked as part of a package.

  • Meals in Transit: Any meals during travel outside of the safari circuit, for example in Nairobi on arrival or departure day if not covered by the itinerary.
