09:30 to 11:00 Depart the city and travel towards the Cradle of Humankind while receiving an introduction to the Witwatersrand geology and the significance of this region in human evolution.
11:00 to 12:30 Arrive at the UNESCO-listed Sterkfontein Caves and join a specialist site guide. Descend into the limestone chambers, walk along boardwalks, view ancient stalactites and stalagmites, see the underground lake, and stand near the excavation sites where Mrs Ples and Little Foot fossils were discovered.
12:30 to 13:00 Enjoy a scenic drive through the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage landscape towards the Maropeng Visitor Centre, with an optional stop for lunch at the Maropeng restaurant at your own expense.

Know before you go

The cave tour involves descending deep underground using a series of stairs and walkways.
Some narrow passages require crouching and bending, and guests with severe claustrophobia or back or knee issues should inform us in advance.
Hard hats are provided and must be worn at all times inside the caves.
The visitor centre features an underground boat ride through Earth, Fire, Water, and Air as a gentle indoor experience suitable for all ages.
The tour is family-friendly; however, strollers and prams are not permitted inside the Sterkfontein Caves for safety reasons.
