Day 01

Pick-up in Iquitos and Caiman Spotting by Canoe

  1. At 8:00 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Iquitos to begin the tour. Please contact us with your flight or hotel details so we can coordinate on time. First, we will travel by car to the city of Nauta, where we will board a boat that will take us directly to the lodge. From there, we will continue in a traditional boat along the Amazon River, making a brief stop at the confluence of Peru's three great rivers: the Amazon, the Marañón, and the Ucayali. At this point, we will have an excellent opportunity to observe pink river dolphins, which primarily inhabit the Amazon River.

  2. In a traditional wooden canoe, we will navigate around the lagoons to familiarize ourselves with the surrounding jungle area before enjoying our first jungle lunch. During the trip, we will look out for birds, monkeys, sloths, and other wildlife.

  3. After lunch, we will continue exploring the jungle by boat in search of monkeys, macaws, toucans, sloths, and other wildlife we might spot along the way. This exploration offers a unique experience in a small boat, allowing us to reach more pristine areas. On this expedition, you will observe different species of monkeys, birds, and pink and gray dolphins from our vessel, experiencing an adventure reminiscent of 15th-century European explorers.

  4. Finally, enjoy the sunset over the rainforest from our boat. Afterward, the group will depart by canoe for a nighttime caiman observation excursion. The guide will explain the nocturnal wildlife and Amazonian nature, and show you the different species of caimans, including black and white caimans. Weather permitting, you will enjoy the return to the lodge with the moonlight and stars reflected on the river - a truly unforgettable experience.

  5. We will return to the lodge to enjoy a home-cooked dinner and a good night's rest.

Day 02

Jungle Survival Skills and Pink River Dolphins

  1. After breakfast, we will set off on a hike through the jungle. You will learn how the natives interpret and use the rainforest, the use of medicinal plants, how to communicate with the trees, and which plants are used for protection against jaguars. During the hike, you will also learn to identify the diverse flora and fauna, including giant tree species like the Lupuna (Ceiba tree), and you will have the opportunity to see monkeys, snakes, and birds.

  2. You will learn about the medicinal plants that local people use to cure illnesses, as well as about traditional aphrodisiac drinks made from the bark and roots of certain trees.

  3. Next, our guide will give us a practical lesson on how to survive in the jungle and how to use what nature offers to our advantage, just like a local. You will learn how to find your way if you get lost, how to drink water from vines, and how to eat wild fruits. We will also look for some "Tarzan" vines to have fun imitating his movements.

  4. Finally, we will take advantage of the hike to collect some typical jungle foods, such as chonta fruit and mushrooms, which we will use for lunch.

  5. After a rest in the hammocks, we will head back out onto the Amazon River to swim with the dolphins. It is very likely that the pink dolphins will appear, but we must keep a safe distance and not touch them, as they are wild animals. If all goes well, they will approach us and we can swim alongside them.

  6. We will make a brief stop on the banks of a tributary river to enjoy a mud treatment at the local natural spa. Cover yourself in mud and let your skin absorb all the nutrients and minerals. This treatment helps relieve stress, relax muscles, hydrate the skin, and eliminate toxins.

  7. We will return to the lodge while enjoying a breathtaking sunset over the Peruvian Amazon from our boat. As night falls, we will set out with flashlights to hike through the jungle in search of anacondas, tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, and giant frogs. You will witness the jungle transform into a deafening chorus of nocturnal creatures, with fauna completely different from that of the day, accompanied by the magical sounds of insects, frogs, wild cats, and owls.

  8. After dinner, the guide may optionally share local stories and adventures from his childhood in the jungle.

Day 03

Monkey Island, Birdwatching, and Piranha Fishing

  1. For early risers, we will take an early morning canoe trip to enjoy the sunrise before breakfast. Macaws, toucans, hoatzins, harpy eagles, and camungos are some of the birds we are likely to see. The view is spectacular. Watch in awe as flocks of birds fill the jungle in search of food. Peru has the greatest number of bird species in the world, and this is one of the best places to see them, within the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.

  2. Before enjoying a hearty breakfast, visitors will have the opportunity to visit Monkey Island and interact with the monkeys by feeding them fruit. These monkeys were rescued from illegal loggers and released in this protected area near the village. Here, we can play with them and observe their behavior up close.

  3. After breakfast, prepare to fish for the famous piranha in the dark tributaries of the Amazon. They are known for their sharp teeth and their insatiable, aggressive appetite for meat, which has given them great fame in popular culture, including film, literature, and television.

  4. After lunch, we will enjoy a canoe trip to visit a lagoon. Along the way, we will see various species of monkeys, macaws, toucans, and sloths in the treetops. We will stop to observe the famous Victoria Regia, also known as the Amazonian Orchid. This giant aquatic plant has white flowers that turn pink the next day. It is an imposing marsh plant that can reach up to 3 meters in diameter, recognized by its enormous circular leaf, a symbol of strength and grandeur.

  5. Enjoy a good rest in your room to prepare for another exciting day ahead.

Day 04

Rainforest Camping and Night Spearfishing

  1. Wake up early for breakfast and get ready for an adventure in the heart of the rainforest. We will navigate the small tributaries and rivers of the Amazon until we reach a lagoon, where we will camp for the night. Here, you will learn to fish and hike through the jungle, as well as practice spearfishing on the riverbanks. Catch your own fish and prepare your meal over the campfire with the help of your guide.

  2. We will embark on a second hike through the jungle in search of more wildlife, while also practicing essential survival techniques. During our trek, we might encounter large anacondas, some reaching 10 meters in length, if we are lucky. It will also be a great opportunity to ask your guide intriguing questions like: When was your last piranha bite? How often do you eat tarantulas? Or, what is the largest anaconda you have ever encountered on a jungle hike?

  3. At night, we will set out in a canoe to search for boa constrictors and anacondas in the tree branches. Your guide might even catch one so you can see it up close.

  4. Just like the jungle dwellers, we will practice spearfishing, an ancient activity dating back to the 15th century, before the arrival of Europeans. Spearfishing requires great skill in handling the tool and a deep understanding of fish behavior. This knowledge allows the fisherman to identify the type of fish, their resting places, and the best times to ensure a successful catch.

Day 05

Native Community Visit and Return to Iquitos

  1. Here, you will have the opportunity to experience and observe indigenous life on the banks of the Amazon River. You will see how houses are built, visit schools and churches, meet local people, and learn about their farming and fishing techniques. You will also observe their customs and traditions to better understand their way of life. The people in the rainforest are very cheerful and welcoming, and they enjoy sharing their culture with international visitors. Children love playing sports, so do not hesitate to join in. Many families make handicrafts from natural and recycled materials. Here, you will have the opportunity to purchase unique pieces of Peruvian Amazonian crafts.

  2. Pablito the little sloth grew up with the community from a very young age, and he has never wanted to leave. Sometimes he gets lost in the jungle for a few days, but he always comes back. We will enjoy our last lunch in the jungle before our return journey. The guides will give a short talk about the current dangers facing the Peruvian rainforest and the Amazon in general. It is not all bad news, though. Ecotourism is an excellent alternative to logging and mining, and it contributes significantly to the well-being of indigenous communities.

  3. Transfer by boat and minivan for the return to the airport. Arrival at your hotel or Iquitos airport. To ensure proper coordination, please inform us of your flight number and time in advance.
