    • Visit the houses of the famous freedom fighters who lived in this neighbourhood, namely: Samora Machel (first President of Mozambique), Joaquim Chissano (second President of Mozambique), Pascoal Mocumbi (former Prime-Minister), José Craveirinha, and Noemia de Sousa (forefather of Mozambican poetry).

  • The Mafalala Walking Tour is part of a community development program run by Associacao IVERCA Turismo, Cultura e Meio-Ambiente that is working on a sustainable tourism approach to creating more jobs for the people in the area, especially youth and women. 
  • Also, the program lobbies to transform Mafalala into a heritage site recognized by the national authorities. Besides the Mafalala Walking Tour, IVERCA runs several other projects, namely: Mafalala Community Museum (under construction), Mafalala Festival, Mafalala Youth Clubs, Caniço, the Mafalala newsletter, and Moz'art - a cultural website (platform for the promotion of the Mozambican Cultural scene).
