Unforgettable 10-day customized tour, family of 4

Reviewed January 19, 2019

We are a family of 4, boy's age 9, girl´s age 7. We contacted I-tours via TourHQ and planned our tour with Mustafa. The plan was excellent and we covered almost all of Morocco's highlights. Our tour guide and driver was Hamid Amraoui, and he made our trip very, very special and very interesting, as he was very knowledgeable.

We arrived in Casablanca on Dec. 23 and travelled to Rabat. In each city I-tours helped us book all of our hotels and Riads (we communicated electronically in advance, to review the options they proposed and chose the best ones according to our needs). After seeing Rabat's highlights (medina and Kasbah of the Udayas) we travelled to Chefchaouene, the lovely blue city, where we spend Christmas eve. In the morning we walked in the gorgeous tiny streets of Chefchaouene and enjoyed the views from the kasbah. The next day we travelled to Fès and were amazed by the tile art and the beauty and order of the city.

On the way to the Merzouga desert the next day (7hr drive), we stopped in Ifrane, in Ben Smim to watch the monkeys and finally arrived in the evening at the desert. The desert was a beautiful experience. Hamid drove us in the morning around the dunes, we visited a nomad family's home and had tea. Hamid's uncle and aunt hosted us to have lunch at their home where we ate delicious Berber pizza and chicken tajin. This was very special. Then in the afternoon we did a buggy tour in the dunes (amazing and extreme adventure) before riding our camels (the kids were extremely excited and mention this their favorite part of the trip) to our luxury desert camp. In the evening we dance and played music with the camp hosts and afterwards did some amazing star-gazing.

The next day we returned (camel ride again) from our camp and continued our tour with Hamid towards the north. On the way, we stopped in the spectacular canyons called Toudgha El Oulia and spent the night in a lovely small hotel in the Rose valley. Continuing our trip north we stopped at the Kasba Amridil in the oasis, in Uarzazate (the children were excited to visit the cinema studios) and also visited the Ksra of Ait-Ben-Haddou. We arrived in Marrakech in the evening. The next morning (New Year's Eve) we visited the medina and Jardin Majorelle. Marrakech is a lovely and lively city, very European to our impression.

We spent the New Year in a nice hotel with live music and a served dinner. The next day Hamid drove us to the airport where we said farewell and left with our hearts filled with joy and our minds full of great memories. We recommend i-tours and specially the guide and driving services of Hamid Amraoui. We will never forget our Morocco trip.

Custom Tour

This company is local, which I really liked.  Our driver/guide was a really nice young Berber man named Hamid.  He spoke English well and basically did whatever we asked, from going to the grocery store to stop at any sights we wanted to see.  Extremely good cautious defensive driver which I appreciated so much.  The vehicle was clean and comfortable.  I regard him as a friend now.  He knew some good restaurants for us to try when we needed a break from Morrocan food.  They had a set 16 day itinerary but were very flexible, as we changed it several times based on their recommendations.  I also had some physical restrictions to only drive two or three hours a day and they did their best to accommodate me.  The price quoted is what you pay unless you want to upgrade your hotel.  We asked for the moderately priced hotels.  One thing I suggested is to offer a discount for cash but to accept credit cards because having to go to ATMs and take out so much cash and carry it around didn't feel safe to me, also to give a receipt for cash.  Although I have no concerns about the honest of the company at all!  The company has high integrity and excellent customer service.  If you want or need something be sure to speak up and be assertive, because they won't necessarily anticipate what you want or need, you need to tell them.  The hotels were good, all the rooms were heated, as this was early December it was cold at night, beautiful and sunny in the daytime.  I would have liked to see some fruit and eggs offered at breakfast, more variety and some beds were hard but I'm kind of picky about soft beds.  If you ask they will try to provide whatever you want.  I felt very safe, they took good care of us, did all the airport transfers so we didn't have to worry about that.  I twisted my ankle and the hotel went down the street to get me ice.  ITours did everything they said they would and more.  We got sick the last few days and had to cancel activities, they found us a spectacular hotel outside the Medina in Marrakech where we could just rest, checked on us every day and remained available for whatever we were up to doing.  And they didn't charge us for the cancellations at the other places.    Hamid took us someplace reputable to buy saffron in Marrakech for a fixed price and some nice shops for other souveniers, and protected us from pushy salespeople.  You do need to bargain which I dislike so I probably paid more than I needed.  Overall, I think this company was a good choice for us and I recommend them.
