I had a very good tour. I thank him very much for showing me Serbia. I asked him to move off of the typical schedule — and in some ways this was somewhat spontaneous but I was accommodated and he helped me a lot.
For example, here is a quote from our time in Roman fortress in Stari Ras:
The long history? It starts withe the romans and myzbe before the romans with the pagan serbs here, but the most important starts with Vizantija part (Byzantine Empire) and they, together with the serbs created this fortress, after that, the bulgarian Khan came here and they fought each other. At one point, serbs and bulgarians made peace and started to continue a war against Byzantine. Thats the part of that kind of history, so in 10th and 11th century, the dynasty of Nemanjić starts from here (Ras region) and this is the first kingdom of Stefan Nemanja, the modern state of Serbia. This place has lots of legends, its a crossroad of very important roads, after war with the ottoman empire, they made other castle on the other position to control also, this road. I would need more time for this place, because it has lots of stories.”
Also for Novi Pazar, which is a great city.
We went to Monastery Đurđevi stupovi (Tracts of St. George, Ђурђеви Ступови) near Novi Pazar
"The son (of Stefan Nemanja), and the brother of Stefan Prvovenčani, came here and rebuilt the kingdom and made lots of monasteries with his brother and after that, the dynasty started with many children in the future and generation after generation. But, this monastery is so interesting because its first built monastery - first monastery, which was created by Stefan Nemanja in the glory and respect of St. George. You can see the left icons here, unfortunately, fire destroyed everything and now you can see very little frescos and icons there and in this position. They are very old. On the other side you can see this icon…"
He’s a very good guide and very smart.
