Its complexity was beyond imagination containing meeting rooms, kitchens, wells, clinics, schools, depots, trenches and emergency exits, all aimed at guerrilla warfare. The tunnels were deep, strong enough to withstand destructive bombings and self-contained enough to outlast prolonged sieges.
