Description

Embark on an adventurous journey to Mount Elgon, an extinct shield volcano on the Uganda–Kenya border. This trek leads you through lush forests, vast moorlands, and dramatic cliffs, culminating at Wagagai Peak, the mountain’s highest point at 4,321m. Along the way, discover breathtaking landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, and cultural encounters in Eastern Uganda. Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Entebbe to Bududa (Mount Elgon Base)
- Meet driver-guide in Entebbe and transfer to Bududa via Jinja and Mbale
- Scenic journey through rural Uganda
- Check-in at lodge, relax and prepare for trek
Accommodation: Lodge at Bududa
Day 2: Hike from Bushiyi Trailhead to Dubi Camp (3,563m)
- Transfer by boda boda to Bushiyi Ranger Post
- Meet guides, chef, and porters
- Hike through lush montane forest and bamboo zones
- Picnic lunch at Shiloko River Camp (2,900m)
- Continue climb to Dubi Camp
Hiking time: 6–7 hours
Elevation gain: ~1,900m to 3,563m
Accommodation: Dubi Camp
Day 3: Summit Wagagai Peak (4,321m) and Return to Camp
- Early morning trek to Wagagai Peak, Mount Elgon’s highest point
- Panoramic views of caldera and Kenyan highlands
- Packed lunch at summit
- Descend back to Dubi Camp or optionally continue to Shiloko Camp
Hiking time: 6–8 hours
Elevation gain/loss: +758m
Accommodation: Dubi or Shiloko Camp
Day 4: Descend to Bushiyi Gate & Transfer to Mbale
- Breakfast and final descent to Bushiyi Ranger Post
- Receive Mount Elgon Trekking Certificate
- Farewell to trekking crew
- Transfer to Mbale for hot shower, dinner, and rest
Hiking time: 4–6 hours
Accommodation: Mountain Inn Hotel – Mbale
Day 5: Return to Entebbe
- Relaxed breakfast and check-out.
- Drive back to Entebbe with scenic stopovers.
- Arrive for outbound flight or optional overnight stay.

A photocopy of your passport including the visa page, torch, malaria prophylaxis, insect repellent, sturdy walking shoes and long trousers for hiking

Binoculars, camera equipment, plenty of drinking water/snacks, any other personal effects, light colored clothing (NB tsetse flies are attracted to blue or dark colors)

Hiking shoes or rubber boots, rain jackets, warm and waterproof gloves, warm sweaters, cameras and snacks

1 day bag (small bag big enough to carry packed lunch, rain gear, drinking water, and camera) [included]
