Itinerary

1. Day 1: Safari Adventure in Akagera

   • Start your day early by driving from Kigali (the capital city) to Akagera National Park.
   • The drive takes approximately 2-3 hours, so depart early to make the most of your day.
   • Arrive at Akagera National Park and proceed to the park headquarters for registration and to hire a ranger or guide for your safari.
   • Go on a game drive through Akagera National Park.
   • This park is known for its diverse wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, and various antelope species.
   • It is also a great place for birdwatching.

   Evening:

   • Return to your accommodation

2. Day 2: Preparing for Gorilla Trekking

   • This drive will take a few hours.
   • Arrive in Musanze, the town nearest to Volcanoes National Park.
   • Have lunch in Musanze. Head to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters to register for your gorilla trekking experience.
   • Ensure you have your gorilla permits booked well in advance.
   • Check into your chosen accommodation in Musanze or the nearby area.
   • Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for your gorilla trek the next day.

3. Day 3: Gorilla Encounter in Volcanoes

   • Head to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules and guidelines.
   • In the late morning to afternoon, embark on your gorilla trek.
   • The duration and difficulty of the trek can vary, but it is an incredible experience to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
   • After spending an hour with the gorillas, return to the park headquarters and receive your gorilla trekking certificate.
   • Depending on your schedule, you can either return to Kigali or stay another night in Musanze to explore more of the area.
