Description
Embark on this safari that takes you to Lake Bunyonyi, located close to Kisoro and Kabale near the Uganda-Rwanda border. Take a cruise and go island hopping around Lake Bunyonyi, the safest lake in Africa, because of its proximity to Bwindi Forest for gorilla trekking. Visit lake makes a fantastic add-on experience to enjoy breathtaking scenery; the main reason to visit Uganda from a nature perspective is to enjoy incredible mountain gorilla trekking tours.
Itinerary
-
Day 1: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
- After breakfast at your hotels, you will embark on a 473.1km (8hr 24mints) to Lake Bunyonyi, the Kabale region known as the Switzerland of Africa. You will have a stopover at the equator for photos, have the water experiment, and have a chance to stand in the line that divides the world into two parts: the southern and northern hemispheres.
- Have another stopover in Mbarara for lunch and then continue to Lake Bunyonyi, the deepest lake in Uganda and the second in Africa. On a bright day, you can see the magnificent volcano of mount muhurta. You will settle in for dinner and overnight.
-
Day 2: Canoeing and transfer to Bwindi
- After breakfast, you will go canoeing, travelling the surroundings around the water from the water's surface as you search for different bird species on the 29 islands of the lake.
- After the canoeing, you will return to your hotel for lunch, then embark on a 71km (2hrs 50mints) journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park, one of the world’s heritage sites and famously known for gorilla trekking activity. On your arrival, you will check in to your hotel, have dinner and overnight.
-
Day 3: Gorilla trekking
- After breakfast, you will have your lunch packed and go for a briefing from the park's ranger on how the gorilla trekking is conducted and how you behave when you’re near the gorillas. Bwindi rainforest offers a dramatic, steeply forested landscape that is incredibly dense and crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing tourists to see the gorillas.
- The trek takes between 1-8 hours. Once the gorillas are sighted, you can spend one hour with them, learning about their behaviours and watching them play, feed, eat and rest. This experience is so exciting and unforgettable. You will return for relaxation, dinner and overnight.
-
Day 4: Transfer back to Kampala
- After breakfast, embark on a journey back to Kampala, enjoying beautiful scenic views of rolling mountains, Kigezi highlands, and Ankole long-horned cattle, among others. Have a stopover at Igongo cultural center for a delicious meal; proceed with the journey to Kampala.
