Itinerary

1. Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park

   • Meet your local tour guide and depart at 5:30 am from Dar es Salaam via Morogoro and Chalinze with a picnic lunch pack.

   • Continue with a drive to Mikumi and after 5 or 6 hours, you will come across lions, elands, hartebeest, buffalos, wildebeest, giraffe, zebras, elephants, wild dogs and many species of birds.

   • Proceed with a full day game drive with viewings at Mikumi National Park, you will see all species of animal and birds. Due to its Savannah, plain animals at Mikumi are easily accessed and it takes only 4 to 5 hours to finish a game at Mikumi National Park.

   • Drive to Bastian Camp for full board accommodation.

2. Day 2: Selous Game Reserve

   • See the traditions of Maasai at 9:00 am after breakfast.

   • Drive to Selous Game Reserve; it takes 7 to 8 hours.

   • Stop for a picnic lunch on the way and the journey will take about 7 hours through the most unexplored and untouched areas in Tanzania.

3. Day 3: Selous Boat Safari

   • Spend the day on game viewing in the Game Reserve. The safari guide points out rare species of animals like the Wild Dogs. Sable antelopes, black rhinoceros, Nile Crocodile, hippopotamus along the banks of the Rufiji River, Cape buffalo, hartebeest and Eland.

   • Take a boat safari for 2 to 3 hours in the evening. The Selous has over 350 bird species, and the river is the place where they congregate in great numbers and are easily seen in the open environment. You might also want to try your luck with the ferocious tiger fish, and weighty catfish that live in the waters in abundance. Boat safaris are also the best excursions for bird enthusiasts. 

   • Relax with a picnic lunch and drinks served in the wilderness before heading back to camp for dinner and overnight to the gentle grunting of the camp. 

4. Day 4: Return to Dar es Salaam

   • Start the day with an early morning breakfast at the camp and a sunrise bushwalking. Walking safaris are a fantastic way to get close to nature and learn more about the smaller species and the bush itself. It’s an unforgettable experience to walk within such a vast and untamed area of a natural reserve. 

   • Walk back to the camp for breakfast and start your way to Dar Es Salaam or take a boat to Zanzibar.
