Itinerary

1. Day 1: Arrival and Exploring Kilwa Kisiwani

   • Arrive in Kilwa Masoko via bus, car, or flight (from Dar es Salaam).
   • Take a boat ride from Kilwa Masoko to Kilwa Kisiwani (30–45 minutes) if arriving by boat.
   • Plan transport to Kilwa Masoko and then proceed with a boat trip to Kilwa Kisiwani if traveling by road.
   • Check-in at a lodge or guesthouse on Kilwa Kisiwani such as Kilwa Seaview Lodge or Kilwa Ruins Lodge.

   • Enjoy a welcome drink and receive a briefing on the day’s itinerary.

   • Explore Kilwa Kisiwani Ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

   • Visit the Great Mosque, Sultan's Palace, Hussein's Tomb, and Swahili architecture that once made the island a thriving trading hub.

   • Discover the history of the island at the Kilwa Kisiwani Museum and its significance in East African trade routes.

2. Day 2: Songo Mnara and Departure

   • Enjoy a local breakfast at your lodge.

   • Take a boat ride to Songo Mnara (20–30 minutes).

   • Explore the Songo Mnara Ruins, another UNESCO World Heritage Site.

   • Discover the well-preserved stone ruins, including mosques, tombs, and remains of a 14th-century Swahili city.

   • Visit the main mosque and enjoy the serene atmosphere of the site.

   • Have lunch on Songo Mnara or return to Kilwa Kisiwani for lunch.

   • Take a boat ride back to Kilwa Kisiwani after the visit.

   • Spend leisure time relaxing at the beach or explore the local market in Kilwa Masoko for souvenirs.

   • Depart after returning to Kilwa Masoko, check out of your lodge.

   • Catch a bus or flight to your next destination or return to Dar es Salaam.
