Day 1: Moshi to Mandara Hut
- Elevation: 1,830m (6,004ft) to 2,700m (8,858ft)
Hiking Distance: 8 km (5 miles)
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Depart from Moshi after breakfast for a scenic 1-hour drive to Marangu Gate.
Complete the necessary registration formalities before beginning your trek through the lush rainforest.
Hike steadily uphill to Mandara Hut, where you may spot monkeys and other wildlife along the way.
Upon arrival, enjoy a warm meal and comfortable accommodation in A-frame huts.
Optionally, embark on a short acclimatization hike to Maundi Crater for stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
- Elevation: 2,700m (8,858ft) to 3,720m (12,205ft)
Hiking Distance: 12 km (7.5 miles)
Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
Begin the day with a hearty breakfast at Mandara Hut before setting off for Horombo Hut.
Trek through the lush rainforest and transition into the moorland zone as the landscape becomes more rugged.
Enjoy breathtaking views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks along the way.
Arrive at Horombo Hut, where you will be welcomed with a warm meal and comfortable A-frame hut accommodation.
Your guide will conduct a briefing for the next day's trek, ensuring you are well-prepared.

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
- Elevation: 3,720m (12,205ft) to 4,703m (15,430ft)
Hiking Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
Begin the trek across the vast lunar desert known as the “Saddle” between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
The rugged, barren landscape offers stunning views of the towering peaks on either side.
Arrive at Kibo Hut after approximately 6 hours of hiking.
Settle in for an early dinner and rest to conserve energy for the summit attempt.
In the evening, your guide will provide a detailed briefing for the upcoming ascent to Uhuru Peak.
Overnight: Kibo Hut (4,703m)

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, then Descent to Horombo Hut
- Elevation: 4,703m (15,430ft) to 5,895m (19,341ft), and down to 3,720m (12,205ft)
Hiking Distance: 22 km (13.7 miles)
Hiking Time: 8-12 hours
Begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak around midnight, aiming to reach Gillman’s Point at 5,685 meters (18,652 feet).
The climb to Gillman’s Point will take around 6 hours and will test your endurance.
After a short rest at Gillman’s Point, continue toward Uhuru Peak, where you will be rewarded with panoramic views, including a stunning sunrise if weather permits.
Celebrate your achievement at the summit, then descend to Kibo Hut for a short rest and meal.
Continue descending to Horombo Hut for an overnight stay.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate/Return to Moshi
- Elevation: 3,720m (12,205ft) to 1,870m (6,135ft)
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Hiking Distance: 20 km (12.4 miles)
Begin the descent from Horombo Hut through the moorland and rainforest zones.
Reflect on your accomplishments as you make your way back to Marangu Gate.
Upon arrival at the gate, celebrate with a medal presentation and receive your summit certificate.
Enjoy a drive back to your hotel in Moshi, where you can relax with a hot meal, a refreshing shower, and a comfortable bed.
