Manyara National Park has a greater diversity of habitats than the larger Serengeti National Park. It has an underground water forest, acacia woodland, marshlands, the lake, and hillside savannah, and you may see elephants, baboons, buffaloes, zebras, monkeys and hippos.
In February, Lake Ndutu is the area where wildebeests come to give birth. This is also the home of the cheetahs. Other sightings include lions, hyenas, giraffes, bat-eared foxes and flamingoes, if the lake is not dry, since the lake is seasonal.
We will go to Ndutu between the months of December and March for the migration, since during the rest of the year the herds are not in that area.
Seronera Valley is the best place for lions in Africa. The area also has great sightings of leopards, hyenas, jackals, topi and Thomson's gazelles. It is also the best place in the park to find cheetah, especially in the dry season. In the afternoon, we'll drive around the Seronera River looking for hippos, elephants, baboons and birds.
The plains of Serengeti National Park have kopjes, which offer good places for lions and leopards to breed, while the valleys offer great wallowing and drinking areas for big herds of elephants.
The Ngorongoro Crater has possibly the largest permanent concentration of wildlife in Africa, with an estimated average of 30,000 large mammals. In addition, this is one of the best reserves in Africa to see black rhino. Other sightings include lions, hyenas, jackals, hippos, buffaloes, elephants, zebras and wildebeest.
