Itinerary
-
Day 1 - Arusha - Tarangire National Park
- After breakfast, you will be picked up for a day in Tarangire National Park early in the morning. This is a national park in Tanzania's Manyara Region. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park. It covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometres (1,100 square miles.) The landscape is composed of granitic ridges, river valleys, and swamps. Vegetation is a mix of Acacia woodland, Combretum woodland, seasonally flooded grassland, and baobab trees. The park is famous for its high density of elephants and baobab trees. Visitors to the park in June to November dry season can expect to see large herds of thousands of zebra, wildebeest and cape buffalo. Other common resident animals include waterbuck, giraffe, dik-dik, impala, eland, Grant's gazelle, vervet monkey, banded mongoose, and olive baboon. Predators in Tarangire include lion, leopard, cheetah, caracal, honey badger, and African wild dog.
- You will then be taken to a campsite in the Mto wa Mbu area for dinner and overnight.
-
Day 2 - A day in the Ngorongoro Crater
- After breakfast, early in the morning, you will leave the campsite and head straight to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for a full day game in the Ngorongoro Crater. The main feature of the Ngorongoro Conservation Authority is the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. The crater, formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago, is 610 metres (2,000 feet) deep, and its floor covers 260 square kilometres (100 square miles). Estimates of the height of the original volcano range from 4,500 to 5,800 metres (14,800 to 19,000 feet) high. The crater floor is 1,800 metres (5,900 feet) above sea level. The crater was voted by Seven Natural Wonders as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa in Arusha, Tanzania, in February 2013. The Ngorongoro volcano was active from about 2.45 to 2 million years ago.
- Later in the evening, you will drive back to Mto wa Mbu for dinner and overnight at a campsite.
-
Day 3 - Lake Manyara National Park - Arusha
- You will visit the famous park featured in Tarzan, Lake Manyara National Park, on your last day. This is a protected area in Tanzania's Arusha and Manyara Regions, situated between Lake Manyara and the Great Rift Valley. It covers 325 km2 (125 sq mi), including about 230 km2 (89 sq mi) lake surface. More than 350 bird species have been observed on the lake.
- Later on, after lunch, you will drive back to Arusha for drop-off in your hotel/accommodation.
