Day 1: Arusha to Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut expand_more
Get picked up from the hotel in Arusha and drive to Marangu Gate.
En route, enjoy excellent views of the mountains with your Tanzania tour guide.
Meet your Kilimanjaro guides and porters at the gate. Spot bright coloured birds, Colobus monkeys, and other species as well as moss, lichens and delicate orchids in the surrounding forests.
Start the ascent and walk for 4-5 hours through coffee plantations and thick rainforests.
Reach Mandara Hut for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Horombo Hut expand_more
After breakfast, start with a steep climb through the rainforests.
Get to see Kilimanjaro’s two snow-covered peaks- Kibo and rocky Mawenzi.
Cross a zone of open moorland and continue walking for some more time.
Have dinner and overnight stay at Horombo Hut.

Day 3: Horombo Hut - Acclimatisation expand_more
Spend a day at Hormobo and rest.
Go for an acclimatisation walk, which leads you to the base of Mawenzi Peak, the eastern summit of Kilimanjaro. The walk will take 4-5 hours.
Return to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Uhuru Peak expand_more
Start your trek at 2 am.
After two hours, reach Hans Meyer’s Cave, which is named after the German geologist who made the first successful ascent in 1889 and found the remains of a frozen leopard. The gradient gets steeper and, after three hours, reach the crater rim at Johanne’s Notch.
From here, walk to Gillman’s Point (5,685 m).
It takes another couple of hours along the crater rim to reach Uhuru (Freedom) Peak (5,896 m).

Day 5: Descend to Marangu Gate expand_more
After breakfast, walk to Marangu Gate.
Board the vehicle and return to Moshi.

Depart to your next destination.
