Description
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro via the 6-day Umbwe Route is an arduous yet rewarding experience that leads through some of the mountain's most stunning scenery. The 6-day journey will take you via the Western Breach Approach, starting at the Umbwe Gate. With a few difficult but effective routes and the help of a knowledgeable guide, you will be able to reach the Uhuru peak securely!
Itinerary

Day 1: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp
- Pick up at the meeting point at Moshi.
- Start your journey at the Umbwe Gate, where you’ll begin your ascent through the dense rainforest.
- Trek for about 6-8 hours to reach Umbwe Camp, located at an altitude of 1,600 meters.

Day 2: Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp
- Continue your ascent through the rainforest and heather moorland, reaching Barranco Camp at an altitude of 2,600 meters.
- The trek takes about 7-8 hours.

Day 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
- From Barranco Camp, you’ll climb up the Barranco Wall and then descend into the Karanga Valley.
- Reach Karanga Camp at an altitude of 3,900 meters and take a well-deserved rest after a challenging 7-8 hours’ trek.

Day 4: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
- The day starts with a steep ascent to the summit, followed by a descent to Barafu Camp at an altitude of 4,500 meters.
- The trek takes about 6-8 hours.

Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
- Get an early start to reach the summit of Uhuru Peak by starting the ascent around midnight, climbing through scree and snow.
- Reach Stella Point (5,739 meters) at sunrise and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa.
- Descend to Mweka Camp at an altitude of 3,100 meters, a 6-8 hours’ trek.

Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
- The final day of your climb takes you through the Mweka Forest and back to the Mweka Gate, where your journey began.
- The trek takes about 3-4 hours.
- End your tour with a transfer back to Moshi.
