Itinerary

Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,720 m)
Your journey begins with a transfer to Marangu Gate for registration and briefing. After meeting your guides and porters, you start trekking through a beautiful rainforest filled with birds, monkeys, and dense vegetation. The trail gently climbs through mossy trees and humid air until you reach Mandara Hut. After settling in, you may take a short walk to Maundi Crater for panoramic views before dinner and rest.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720 m)
After breakfast, you continue climbing through the last stretch of the rainforest before entering the heath and moorland zone. The landscape opens up with giant lobelias and groundsels scattered across the valleys. The air becomes cooler as you ascend, and the views of Mawenzi Peak become more dramatic. You will reach Horombo Hut, where you enjoy hot meals and rest in a comfortable alpine setting.

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700 m)
Today’s trail takes you into the alpine desert, a stark but stunning landscape between the towering peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. The path is long but gradual, giving you time to adjust to the altitude. You walk through dry terrain with incredible mountain views all around before finally reaching Kibo Hut, located at the foot of the Kibo crater wall. After an early dinner, you prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 4: Kibo Hut – Summit Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Back to Horombo Hut
You begin your summit push around midnight, climbing steep switchbacks to reach Gilman’s Point at dawn. As the sun rises, you continue along the crater rim to the highest point in Africa—Uhuru Peak. Enjoy breathtaking views before starting your descent back to Kibo Hut for a short rest. After lunch, you continue down to Horombo Hut, where you will spend the night recovering after this unforgettable achievement.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate – Transfer Out
Your final day on the mountain takes you back through the moorlands and lush forest to Marangu Gate. Here, you sign out, receive your summit certificate, and meet the driver for your transfer back to Moshi or the airport. This marks the end of a rewarding and memorable Kilimanjaro adventure.
