Itinerary
-
Day 1- Arusha to Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
- Your driver will pick you up from your accommodation right after breakfast and take you to Londorossi Gate. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to stop at a nearby local village, grab lunch, and purchase any last-minute supplies.
- At Londorossi Gate, you will meet your guide and begin your hike through the thick rainforest covering the lower base of Kilimanjaro.
- During your short 3 to 4-hour trek to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp, keep an eye out for local wildlife, including the Colobus monkey, and enjoy the rich biodiversity along the way.
-
Day 2- Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 2 Camp
- After breakfast, you will trek through scrubby moorlands, crisscrossed with silently bubbling streams. As you cross the vast plateau on your way to Shira 2 Camp, you will be amazed by the spectacular views surrounding the mountain.
- Shira 2 Camp will be your base for the night, where you will settle in and rest. Here, you will also notice that your route has merged with the Machame Route.
-
Day 3- Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
- Right after an energizing breakfast, you will set off for your first challenge of the day—the nerve-wracking ascent to Lava Tower (4,640m).
- After a 700m climb to Lava Tower, you will gradually descend toward Barranco Camp (4,500m). Along the way, you will pass through various vegetation zones, offering a unique and scenic trekking experience.
- For the night, you will camp at the breathtaking Barranco Camp, nestled in the shadows of the impressive Barranco Wall. Often considered the most beautiful camp on Kilimanjaro, Barranco will be your base for the night.
-
Day 4- Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
- Today will be your first real taste of mountain climbing as you challenge yourself with a bit of old-school rock climbing through Barranco Wall.
- After conquering this fearless challenge, you will continue for 3 to 4 hours toward the great Karanga Valley, where you will rest and stop for lunch. The night will be yours to relax and adapt to the mountain’s weather conditions.
-
Day 5- Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp.
- Barafu Camp will be your next base after an energizing breakfast and a 2 to 3-hour hike. Your journey takes you across an alpine desert, making for a truly out-of-this-world hiking experience.
- You will be served a nutritious mountain meal and plenty of water before turning in for the evening, as you will be summiting tomorrow.
-
Day 6- Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
- Just after midnight, our professional guides will wake you up with a cup of tea and a light meal for energy as you dress and prepare for the adventure ahead. You will be hiking in pitch darkness for five to six hours, so take it easy, and you will reach Stella Point a few hours before sunrise.
- From here, an additional two hours of extreme hiking will lead you to your ultimate objective: Uhuru Peak. Standing at 5,985 meters, you will witness an incredible sunrise and take in a spectacular panoramic view. Congratulations! You have made it to the Roof of Africa.
- After capturing beautiful shots, you will begin your descent to Barafu Camp, where you will break for lunch and celebration. After a well-earned rest, you will continue down to Mweka Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
-
Day 7- Mweka-camp – Moshi
- Today is a day of fun, joy, and celebration as you enjoy your final meal on the mountain before climbing down to Mweka Gate.
