The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arrival in Moshi

Your flight will arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where the driver will meet you. From there, you will be transferred to Moshi and taken to Sal Salinero Hotel, where you will have dinner, a shower, and an overnight stay (BB - Bed and Breakfast).

2
Day 02

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut Through Rainforest

After breakfast, we will take you to Marangu Gate. Upon arrival at the gate, you will be registered and introduced to our porters and team, who will accompany you on the mountain climb. The porters will pack your belongings, and the trek will begin.

We will start the ascent on a clear ridge trail through the tropical rainforest with lunch boxes. You will hike through a biodiverse zone that is home to endemic flowers and the montane forest. If you are lucky, you may spot animals such as blue monkeys near the upper edge of the forest line. The trek continues until we reach Mandara Hut. You can either walk over to Maundi Crater, where you may enjoy a great view of Mawenzi Peak, or relax at the camp and take in the beautiful scenery.

We shall have dinner and spend the night at Mandara Hut (FB - Full Board).

3
Day 03

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut Across the Moorland

After breakfast, we will continue our trek, leaving the forest behind and entering the high moorland vegetation zone. Our path leads up and out of the woodlands into a higher-altitude habitat of moor and heath. Today's hike should take about six hours, and we will break up the day by stopping for lunch at a spot where we can see the still far-off peak of Mawenzi.

When we reach Horombo Hut, we will get checked in before enjoying dinner and swapping stories of our adventures with other travellers. If you still have energy to spare, we can also make a short out-and-back hike to Zebra Rock, a lava rock formation named for the black-and-white striations running down its surface.

4
Day 04

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut via the Saddle

Today's hike takes us away from the open moorlands and into an alien, rocky landscape known as the Saddle. This gradual extra day is defined as an important moment of acclimatization on Mawenzi Ridge. Nowhere else is the volcanic nature of Kilimanjaro more apparent, and this wide-open terrain reveals fabulous views all the way to the mountain's summit. Our ultimate destination is Kibo Hut, where we will stay for the night as we prepare for summit day.

We shall be served an early dinner and spend the night at Kibo Hut, preparing for the summit day (FB - Full Board).

5
Day 05

Summit Day to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Horombo Hut

Today is the culmination of your grandest dreams and the ultimate reward for your rigorous preparation. We will break camp at midnight to begin the ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro. We will navigate the darkness carefully, taking our time and monitoring ourselves for any symptoms of altitude sickness. The climb is steep, but the reward is worth the perseverance.

You shall be grateful to reach Gilman's Peak, where the sun will be rising by then. A few minutes later, we shall finally reach Uhuru Peak via Stella Point. Standing on the very roof of Africa, awash with elation at your accomplishment and enjoying the celebratory camaraderie of your fellow hikers, you will know that the prize was worth the struggle. After taking dozens of photos and enjoying the morning panorama to its fullest, we will begin the long descent back to Horombo Hut. One thing is for sure: you will sleep well tonight.

6
Day 06

Final Descent to Marangu Gate and Return to Moshi

On our final trek on the mountain, we shall make a long descent through the tropical rainforest. Traversing this terrain in reverse presents a new perspective; each twist and turn through the montane forests of Kilimanjaro reveals a fresh scene of surpassing beauty. When we reach Marangu Gate, you will be awarded your summit certificate from the park headquarters. In that same area, we will hang up our hiking boots and make the leisurely drive back to the hotel in Moshi for a hard-earned meal and a drink to commemorate our achievements on the trail.

The journey to Moshi will end at the Sal Salinero Hotel, where you will be served dinner, have a shower, and comfortably spend the night (HB - Half Board).

7
Day 07

Departure from Kilimanjaro

In the morning, you shall have a relaxed breakfast, and after that, you will be taken to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back home.

    • Sleepwear
    • Rain gear (if travelling during the rainy season, March-May and Oct-Dec)
    • Please note: bright and white colours are not recommended for safari
  • General Packing Recommendations:

    • Bring sturdy, soft-sided luggage, which is easier to stow throughout the trip and to carry in our vehicles during transfers.
    • Carry any necessities, including travel documents, money, medications, and other vital supplies, in your carry-on bag, not your checked luggage.
    • If you plan to lock your luggage, please use a TSA-approved security device.
    • Leave expensive jewellery at home. If you would be heartbroken to lose the item, do not bring it along.
    • Keep cash in more than one place.
    • A water-resistant daypack to carry cameras and other items is very handy while on game drives. Better yet, let this be your carry-on.
    • Please avoid bringing hair dryers, irons, radios, and excess clothing or toiletries. All points of this trip are quite casual, and we recommend keeping your luggage down to the basics. However, you can use them if you bring them along. If any of these items are necessary for you, you should ask so we can check with the hotel first.
  • Baggage Allowance:

    • Please bring soft-sided luggage such as duffel bags, not hard suitcases. Charter flights within Tanzania strictly limit passengers to 44 lbs, including carry-ons, so the key is to pack as light as possible. Most properties provide laundry service at a cost to be paid directly unless it is mentioned on the booking.
