Day 1 - Farab-Merv-Ashgabat
- Day 1: Uzbek–Turkmen Border – Merv – Ashgabat
Approx. distance: 480–500 km | Driving time: full day with sightseeing stops
Arrival at the Uzbek–Turkmen border early in the morning at 09:00. After completing border formalities at both checkpoints, begin the scenic drive across the Turkmen plains toward Merv, one of the most important archaeological sites in Central Asia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Merv was once among the world’s largest and most influential cities, flourishing as a major hub of international trade, science, and culture along the Great Silk Road. At its height, it rivaled cities such as Baghdad and Constantinople. Today, the vast archaeological park preserves the remains of several ancient cities built over different periods, reflecting more than 2,000 years of history.
During the visit, explore the highlights of the Merv Historical Park, including:Sultan Sanjar Mausoleum, a masterpiece of Seljuk architecture and one of the most impressive monuments in Turkmenistan
Erk Gala, the oldest settlement and ancient citadel
Gyaur Gala, once a thriving pre-Islamic city
Large and Small Gyz Gala, mysterious fortress-like structures believed to be palaces or defensive complexes
Keshk Fortress and other scattered remains that illustrate Merv’s former grandeur
After the guided exploration of Merv, continue the drive to Ashgabat, passing changing landscapes as you approach the capital.
Arrival in Ashgabat late in the evening, with overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 - Ashgabat-Darvaza
- Day 2: Ashgabat – Darvaza Gas Crater

Early in the morning, begin the day with a sightseeing tour of Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, renowned for its striking modern architecture and officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the city with the highest concentration of white-marble buildings in the world.
During the city tour, visit:Old Nisa, an ancient Parthian settlement and UNESCO World Heritage Site, once a royal residence and spiritual center
The Monument of Neutrality, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks
Ertugrul Gazi Mosque, inspired by Ottoman architecture
The recently developed Independence Park, showcasing national monuments and landscaped grounds
A local bazaar, offering insight into everyday life and traditional products
The excursion also includes a visit to the Akhal-Teke horse stables, where you will learn about Turkmenistan’s legendary horse breed, prized for its endurance, elegance, and historical importance.
In the afternoon, depart Ashgabat and drive through the vast Karakum Desert to the Darvaza Gas Crater (approx. 280 km, about 4 hours). Upon arrival, set up camp near the crater.
In the evening, enjoy a traditional fire-cooked dinner under the open sky while witnessing the dramatic glow of the “Door to Hell.”
Overnight accommodation in yurts or tents near the crater.

Day 3 - Darvaza Gas Crater to Uzbek Border
- Day 3: Darvaza Gas Crater – Turkmenistan–Uzbekistan Border
Approx. distance: 280 km | Driving time: ~3 hours
In the morning, depart from the Darvaza Gas Crater and drive toward the Turkmenistan–Uzbekistan border (approximately 280 km, about 3 hours).
Arrival at the border area between 11:00 and 12:00, followed by lunch.
After lunch, complete border formalities, with border crossing scheduled at approximately 14:00, marking the end of services in Turkmenistan.
