  • Day 1: Transport Huaraz to Cuartelhuain - hike to Mitucocha expand_more
    • Our trekking starts after picking you up from your hotel.
    • We head south of Huaraz and then drive for 4 to 5 hours until Cuartelhuain (4300m).
    • Here, we start hiking and reach Cacananpunta pass (4700m) after 2.5 hours.
    • Then, we descend to the Jalca plain and on to our camp before the Laguna Mitucocha (4220 m).

    Overnight.

  • Day 2: Mitucocha to Carhuacoocha expand_more
    • We ascend south to the Paso de Carhuac pass (4650m).
    • From here, there's an awesome panorama of the mountains Yerupajá Grande, the second highest mountain in Peru, and Siulá Grande (6344m).
    • Then, we descend to our camp at the large Lake Carhuacocha (4150m).
  • Day 3: Carhuacocha, Siula Pass and camp in Huayhuash expand_more
    • Today, we ascend the challenging path towards the Siula pass at 4800m.
    • On the way to the high pass, we stop at a viewpoint from where we get impressive views of the famous 3 Huayhuash lagoons with an overwhelming summit panorama.
    • Then, we descend to our camping in Huayhuash at 4300 meters.
  • Day 4: Huayhuash to Trapecio pass, camp in Cuyoc expand_more
    • After the group breakfast, we begin our hike to the highest point called Trapecio pass at 5040 m.
    • From here, looking southeast, we see a new collection of nearby snow peaks.
    • This viewpoint is considered the fourth most beautiful viewpoint in Huayhuash.
    • Then, we descend to our camp in Cuyoc (4480 m).
  • Day 5: Cuyoc to Santa Rosa pass, camp in Huayllpa village expand_more
    • From our camp, we climb to a pass on Cerro San Antonio.
    • After 2 hours, we reach the top of the pass at 4800m, with fantastic views of all the giants of the Cordillera Huayhuash and the 3 lakes of Sarapococha, Santa Rosa & Jurau.
    • The descent is initially steep, a long path through the Calinca valley to the village called Huayllapa.
    • Finally, in the village of Huayllapa, we have the option to charge our batteries, drink some beers, and even rent a place to take a hot shower.
  • Day 6: Huayllapa to Tapush pass, camp in Gashpapampa expand_more
    • After breakfast, this day a long zigzag ascent road awaits us.
    • First, we will reach the meadow called Huatiac (4350m), where we stop for a short rest.
    • Then, we will continue ascending until we reach the Punta Tapush pass (4770m), from where we get some views of Nevado Diablo Mudo.
    • Finally, we arrive at our next camp, which is in Gashpapampa (4300m).
  • Day 7: Gashpa to Yaucha pass, camp in Jahuacocha expand_more
    • Today, we will cross the high pass called Punta Yaucha at 4850 m.
    • The effort to reach this spectacular viewpoint is well worth it, as the magnificent views of the surrounding high peaks are truly impressive.
    • Also, we will stop at the Huacrish viewpoint to get one last view of the 2 emblematic Huayhuash lagoons (Jahuacocha and Solteracocha).
    • Our last camp is close to Jahuacocha lagoon (4050 m).
  • Day 8: Hike to Llamac village, transport to Huaraz expand_more
    • Early start and gentle descent for an hour, we start our gradual climb to the final pass called Macrash punta (4300m).
    • From here, we have our final views of much of the Huayhuash range.
    • Then it is a long descent back to the Llamac village.
    • Transport to Huaraz, we arrive at about 15:00 hours.

What to bring

  • Plastic Bags: To keep your belongings and clothes dry (wrap everything in plastic bags).
  • Small plastic bags for rubbish, which can then be thrown in the main rubbish bag provided by the staff.
  • Small Towel and Basic Personal Toiletries
  • Water Bottle: Bring one large (1.5 liters) or two or three small water bottles that can be refilled on the trail with boiled water, which will be supplied when possible.
  • Warm Clothing for the Night Time: Fleece, long pants, woolen hat, gloves
  • Thermal Underwear: If trekking in winter or you feel the cold
  • Walking Clothing in Layers: e.g., zip-off trousers, fleece, T-shirts
  • Personal Medication and Basic First Aid Kit: Band-aids, Imodium, Panadol, rehydration sachets
  • Camera and Spare Batteries, Memory Cards, or Film: Please note: there are no electrical outlets on the treks, so make sure you fully charge and/or have spare batteries!
  • Snacks: Chocolates, chips, biscuits, energy bars. Snacks are provided during the trek, but you may like to bring one or two extras just in case.
  • Torch (Flashlight): (Very Important) and spare batteries.
  • For the Sun: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and sunhat
  • Tropical Strength: Insect repellent
  • Antiseptic Hand Gel
  • Flip-flops, Thongs, Sandals, etc.
Know before you go
  • How many days do I need to aclimate in Huaraz BEFORE THE TREK?
    • It is very important to be well acclimated to the altitude before exerting yourself on a trek. We do recommend that you arrive to Huaraz at least 2 or 3 days before the trek starts to help you become acclimatized and avoid possible problems with altitude sickness while on the trek.
    • If you have already been in another area of Peru at high altitude before arriving in Huaraz, we still recommend you have a complete day in Huaraz to rest, recover from your travel, and enjoy the sights and sounds of Huaraz before departing for the trek.
  • Can you accommodate food sensitivities?
    • Our cooks are used to dealing with vegetarians. However, other clients and staff may have a conventional diet. Meals are prepared in the same tent and scents of meals can not be avoided. if you do not want to eat your meal in the same tent with clients having a conventional diet, please inquire about a private tour.
  • Important for group departures!
