Muscat, Nizwa, Jebel Al Akhdar and Birkat Al Mouz
You will be picked up from the airport or your hotel in Muscat by your tour guide and driven to the Nizwa Souq. Nizwa was the former capital of the Sultanate and the birthplace of Islam in Oman. Its deep traditions can still be felt during a visit to the old market, where Omani handicrafts, sweets, and spices are sold among many other items. It is particularly famous for its Friday cattle market with a lively goat auction.
Explore Nizwa Fort. Built in the 17th century, it is the largest fort in Oman and is known for its landmark round Nizwa Tower.
Head to Jebel Al Akhdar. Akhdar means green in Arabic, and as you drive up the mountain past fruit and vegetable gardens on man-made terraces built into the mountainside, it is easy to understand why it was given this appropriate name.
Admire several jaw-dropping viewpoints. Take a beautiful walk along the edge of the mountain with stunning views over the deep valley, garden plantations, and abandoned villages.
Come to Birkat Al Mouz, a beautiful oasis settlement that lies at the foothills of the great Jebel Al Akhdar mountain.
Go for a short walk among ruined traditional mud and clay structures around the abandoned old village of Sal Saybani, passing through lush banana and date plantations.
Examine the ancient Falaj Al Khatmeen water delivery system, recognized by UNESCO World Heritage for Omani contribution to agricultural development.
At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel.
