Muscat City Highlights and Cultural Landmarks
- Our Muscat City Tour begins at the Grand Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world. It is open Saturday to Thursday from 8:00-11:00 am and closed on Friday. Here, you can admire the second-largest handmade carpet in the world and the famous chandelier in the main prayer hall.
- Leaving the mosque, we then drive past the Opera House for an inside visit or a photo stop, before continuing along the beautiful beach road of Shatti Qurum and on to the Fish Market. We will also take you to enjoy Omani bread with honey and saffron Karak tea.
- From here, we walk along the corniche to the famous Mutrah Souq, a colourful market with many small alleyways and passages where you will find an assortment of souvenirs, antiques, and delightful treasures.
- Our next stop is the magnificent Al Alam Palace in Old Muscat, the official palace of His Majesty Royal Highness Sultan Qaboos. It is flanked by the 16th-century Portuguese forts Mirani and Jalali.
- We then visit the Bait Al Zubair Museum, an excellent small private Omani heritage museum near the palace. Here, you can see typical Omani dresses, weapons, jewellery, and many other items.
- After that, we drive south along the coastal road, passing the main private marina, to the Al Bustan Palace Hotel for a peek into its gigantic famous lobby. The tour ends here, and you can request to be dropped anywhere in Muscat.
Note: The entrance fee for the Opera House Tour (3 OMR) is not included in the tour.
