The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arrival in Muscat and Hotel Transfer

  • You will arrive at Muscat International Airport. Upon arrival, you will be met by our friendly and efficient AFAQ Travel & Tourism chauffeur, who will assist you to the comfort of the vehicle and drive you to your hotel.

Day 02

Muscat City Tour with Grand Mosque, Muttrah and Museum

  • After breakfast at the hotel, you will begin your city tour with a visit to the beautiful Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the Middle East and the only mosque in Oman open to non-Muslims and expatriates.
  • Afterwards, you will visit the Muttrah Corniche and Muttrah Souq, where you will have a photo stop by the large cruise ships along the corniche and explore the market to discover traditional handicrafts, Omani daggers, and many antiques.
  • It will then be time for lunch, which you can enjoy according to your taste and interest, as many restaurants are available in Muscat.
  • You will then visit the National Museum to learn about Oman’s traditions, culture, and heritage. After that, you will have a photo stop at the official residence of His Majesty, Al Alam Palace, flanked by the 16th-century Portuguese forts of Mirani and Jalali.
  • After covering almost every visitable place, it will be time to return and rest before the next day’s experiences. You will be dropped off at the hotel.

Day 03

Bimmah Sinkhole, Wadi Shab Hike and Ras al Hadd

  • After pickup at 9:00 a.m., you will depart from Muscat and travel south towards the Quriyat region. After just a few kilometres, you will be absorbed in an almost lunar world where unreal mountains dominate the view.
  • You will continue through the mountainous landscape, arriving at the dramatic Bimmah Sinkhole. Once refreshed, you will continue travelling and arrive at Wadi Shab, with wadi meaning a valley between cliffs.
  • Upon arrival at Wadi Shab, you will transfer by a small fishing boat across the wadi to begin your journey. The word breathtaking hardly does it justice. You will walk through the amazing canyon until you arrive at the wadi leading to the Keyhole. Here, you can relax and take a dip in the pools. You can swim through a pool of crystal-clear water and dive through a narrow keyhole, where you will find a magnificent cave complete with an incredible waterfall.
  • Then, travel to Ras Al Jinz for a turtle-watching activity before continuing to your hotel in Ras al Hadd.

Day 04

Wadi Bani Khalid, Wahiba Desert and Sunset Dune Bashing

  • After breakfast at the hotel, you will depart on an exciting 4WD journey through the mountains. Your first stop will be Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman’s most beautiful wadis. The wadi has clear, deep blue water and is among the few wadis in Oman that hold water all year round.
  • Then, you will travel to the Wahiba Sands, famous for its multicoloured sand, which varies from black to honey-golden and even white. In the heart of the golden sands of the Sharqiyah Desert, nestled among stunning and ever-changing dune patterns, is the Arabian Oryx Camp. The camp offers luxurious Bedouin-style, air-conditioned accommodation and various complimentary toiletries. Its wilderness setting emphasizes the beauty of the golden sun surrounding it, and you will be welcomed with the warmth and kindness of Omani hospitality.
  • After an adrenaline-fuelled 4WD safari across 150-metre dunes and a spectacular sunset view, you will be ready to experience the delicious Arabic cuisine, splendour, and live entertainment offered by the camp. While sitting around a campfire under the starry sky, you can look back over your day and appreciate this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Day 05

Bedouin House Visit, Birkat Al Mauz and Jebel Akhdar

  • After an early breakfast at the desert camp, you will depart on an exciting 4WD journey, visit a local Bedouin house, and have Omani coffee while enjoying their traditional hospitality.
  • Next, you will depart for Jebel Akhdar, also known as the Green Mountain. On the way, you will stop at Birkat Al Mauz and have the opportunity to walk through a palm plantation at the foot of the Green Mountain.
  • You will then begin ascending to the Jebel Akhdar Mountains. This mountain offers discovery and adventure, with nature’s primordial beauty visible in its soaring peaks and plunging canyons, along with terraces rising on extremely steep mountain slopes. The trek goes from one village to another through the terraces and along the falaj system, with splendid views of the hanging terraces.
  • After the day’s experiences, your overnight stay will be in the mountains.

Day 06

Nizwa Fort, Nizwa Souq, Bahla Fort and Jibreen Castle

  • After breakfast and check-out from the hotel, you can enjoy the early sunrise from the Green Mountains before starting your journey to the cultural capital, Nizwa.
  • Your first stop will be the spectacular Nizwa Fort, with its massive circular cannon tower, one of the most impressive forts in Oman. You will also visit the traditional Nizwa Souq, a lively place and an ideal location to purchase handicrafts and souvenirs. Your next stop will be Jibreen Castle, built in 1675 and once an important centre for practising astrology, medicine, and Islamic law.

Day 07

Jebel Shams, Misfah, Al Hamra Museum and Return to Muscat

  • Pickup will be at 8:30 a.m. You will depart your hotel and proceed towards Al Hamra to see one of the oldest villages in this region. The traditional mud houses, dating back 400 years, are still occupied.
  • Continue through the untamed and rugged countryside. You will visit the Al Hamra Museum, known for portraying Oman’s aged history, cultivation, and lifestyle. After an impressive cultural day, it will be time to travel back towards Muscat, with drop-off at the hotel.

Day 08

Departure from Muscat

  • After an amazing tour, it is time for departure. Our guide will drop you at Muscat International Airport for your onward departure.

  • Wadi Shab is a semi-adventure site and includes hiking/walking for 20 minutes; it has to be done in shoes only.

  • Wear appropriate clothes while visiting the Grand Mosque, for example, long trousers and a half- or full-sleeve top.
  • Please do not take pictures of local men or women without their consent.
