Kirtipur Heritage Walk
- Meet our tour representative at your hotel in Kathmandu.
- Drive to Kirtipur (it will take half an hour to get to Kirtipur from Kathmandu).
- We stop at the entrance ticket counter (entrance for foreigners is Rs. 100 per person).
- Then we start our walk/sightseeing in Kirtipur. Kirtipur city has an old human settlement at the top of Kirtipur Hill. This is Newari City. Newar is one of the ethnic groups of Nepal. They have their own culture, customs and traditions. They practice Hinduism and Buddhism. Thus, we see old stupas, Temples and Monasteries during the walk.
- First, we visit the Chilancho Stupa of the 14 century. It is a famous temple architecture of Nepal, which Buddhist people built and contains Buddhist relics. It has spiritual and philosophical values, and we learn the philosophy of life by visiting stupas. Around the stupa, we observe old images of different deities, prayer wheels and ritual objects.
- After this stupa, we proceed towards the Baga Bhairab temple, built in the 13 century. It is a Hindu pagoda temple dedicated to God Shiba. The god Shiba has an angry tiger face. In the local language, Baga means the Tiger. This God is a guardian God of the city of Kirtipur.
- The next stop is the Uma Maheswor Temple, situated at the city's highest point. We see beautiful views around here. This temple is famous for beautifully carved wooden pillars and struts. It was built in the 17th century.
- We conclude our walk at the Buddhis Monastery, where Buddhist monks pray and learn Buddhism.
