Itinerary

1. Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo and Transfer to Andasibe

   • Arrive at the international airport of Antananarivo where you will be met and welcomed after completing formalities including money exchange.
   • Drive east towards Andasibe with beautiful views of the eastern landscapes of Madagascar along the way.
   • Travel by comfort minibus to your hotel in Andasibe.

   Stay overnight at Andasibe Cyperus Hotel or similar accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis.

2. Day 2: Andasibe National Park and Vakona Reserve

   • Visit Andasibe National Park in the morning to encounter the Indri Indri, the largest lemur in the world, along with brown lemurs, bamboo lemurs, chameleons, giraffe necked weevils and other wildlife.
   • Observe the rich biodiversity of the park which is home to 108 recorded bird species.
   • Explore the private Vakona Reserve in the afternoon and visit Lemur Island for close encounters with lemurs.
   • Join a guided night walk to spot nocturnal lemurs, including some of the smallest lemur species.
   • Return to Andasibe Cyperus Hotel or similar for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis.

3. Day 3: Andasibe to Antananarivo via Pereyras Reserve

   • Depart Andasibe by comfort minibus and drive back to the capital Antananarivo.
   • Stop at Pereyras Reptile Reserve to observe endemic reptiles of Madagascar up close.
   • Continue to Antananarivo and check in at Hotel Belvedere or similar on a bed and breakfast basis.

4. Day 4: Antananarivo to Antsirabe via Ambatolampy

   • Drive south towards Antsirabe through the hilly terraced highlands of Madagascar.
   • Stop in Ambatolampy to visit an aluminium pot workshop and observe traditional production techniques.
   • Continue to Antsirabe, an important industrial centre known for its cool climate and colourful pousse pousse rickshaws.
   • Explore local craft shops and admire colonial era architecture in the town.

   Stay overnight at Vatola Hotel on a bed and breakfast basis.

5. Day 5: Tritriva Lake and Andraikiba Lake Bike Tour

   • Begin an almost full day bicycle tour around Antsirabe.
   • Cycle to Tritriva Lake, a volcanic lake surrounded by cliffs up to 20 metres high, and walk around the lake in approximately 45 minutes.
   • Learn about the legend of two lovers who drowned in the lake and see the rock formation symbolising their embrace.
   • Continue cycling through sloping landscapes and gravel roads with scenic countryside views.
   • Arrive at Andraikiba Lake located 7 kilometres from Antsirabe and enjoy time to relax by the water.
   • Return to Vatola Hotel for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis.

6. Day 6: Antsirabe to Miandrivazo

   • Enjoy a short city tour of Antsirabe and visit local craft shops featuring recycled materials.
   • Travel west by comfort minibus to Miandrivazo, known as the hottest town in Madagascar and the starting point of the Tsiribihina River descent.
   • Check in at Princesse du Tsiribihina on a bed and breakfast basis.

7. Day 7: Tsiribihina River Boat Trip

   • Begin your Tsiribihina River adventure by local ferry.
   • Stop at Anosin Ampela waterfall for swimming and refreshing breaks.
   • Continue cruising through scenic landscapes before camping on the riverbank at sunset.

   Enjoy dinner, campfire experience and a night under the stars on a full board basis.

8. Day 8: Tsiribihina River Boat Trip

   • Spend a full day cruising peacefully along the Tsiribihina River.
   • Observe birds, lemurs and occasionally crocodiles along the riverbanks.
   • Pass remote villages and witness the daily life of local communities.
   • Travel through diverse and isolated natural wilderness landscapes.

   Camp overnight on the riverbank with dinner and campfire on a full board basis.

9. Day 9: Tsiribihina River to Baobab Alley and Morondava

   • Complete your final morning on the river and enjoy lunch on board.
   • Travel by four wheel drive vehicle through the western spiny forest towards Baobab Alley.
   • Stop at Baobab Alley at sunset to admire the red tones of the majestic baobab trees and capture photographs.
   • Continue to Morondava and stay overnight at Laguna Beach or similar on a bed and breakfast basis.

10. Day 10: Betania Village and Leisure in Morondava

    • Visit the fishermen village of Betania by local pirogue and observe traditional daily life.
    • Witness the construction of traditional wooden boats used by the local community.
    • Spend free time relaxing at your hotel in Morondava.

    Stay overnight at Laguna Beach or similar on a bed and breakfast basis.

11. Day 11: Morondava to Antananarivo

    • Transfer by comfort minibus to Morondava Airport for your domestic flight to Antananarivo.
    • Upon arrival in the capital, transfer to your hotel.

    Stay overnight at Chat O Park Hotel on a bed and breakfast basis.

12. Day 12: Antananarivo City Tour and Souvenir Shopping

    • Explore the highlights of Antananarivo including the Royal Palace of Ambohimanga.
    • Visit souvenir shops to purchase Malagasy handicrafts, wood carvings and spices such as vanilla and pepper.
    • Return to Chat O Park Hotel for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis.

13. Day 13: Departure from Antananarivo

    • Transfer from your hotel to Antananarivo Airport for your international flight.
    • Conclude your 13 day Madagascar adventure.
