Day 01

Morning Birding in Forest and Savanna

  • 6:00 AM: Pick up from your hotel in Nairobi and drive to the park entrance.
  • 6:30 AM: Arrive at the park and begin your game drive.
  • 7:00 AM: Start birding in the highland forest near the Langata main gate. This is the highest point in the park and is home to a variety of forest birds, including Hartlaub's turaco, crowned eagle, and black-and-white casqued hornbill.
  • 8:30 AM: Continue your game drive through the park's savanna grasslands. Here, you can see a variety of open-country birds, such as the secretary bird, kori bustard, and ostrich.
  • 10:00 AM: Take a break for breakfast at one of the park's picnic sites.

Day 02

Wetlands, Ivory Burning Site, and Riverine Forest

  • 11:00 AM: Continue your game drive, focusing on the park's wetlands. These areas are home to a variety of waterbirds, such as the African jacana, great white pelican, and saddle-billed stork.
  • 1:00 PM: Have lunch at one of the park's lodges or restaurants.
  • 2:00 PM: Visit the Ivory Burning Site, a memorial to the 12 tonnes of ivory that were burned here in 1989 in a symbolic gesture against poaching.
  • 3:00 PM: Continue your game drive, focusing on the park's riverine forest. This type of forest is home to a variety of bird species that are not found in other parts of the park, such as the blue-headed coucal, brown-backed woodpecker, and African paradise flycatcher.
  • 5:00 PM: Depart from the park and drive back to Nairobi.
