Itinerary

1. Pontianak

   • Take a Pontianak  city tour, learning more about its origins and name. Pontianak is a supernatural entity of the Malayan Folklore, that is said to appear in the night to seduce and scare men.

   • Start from the oldest Chinese temple, visiting the legendary Sultan Kadriah Palace and Grand Mosque Jami Sultan Al Qadri, that lies next to each other, in the junction of Kapuas and Landak River.

   • Proceed to Equator Monument, a man made object situated in the north side of the City.  Visit the Aloe-vera Center to taste Aloe-jelly, an activity that is good for health.

   • Take a 1 hour boat ride in the Kapuas river, to watch the sun make its descent into the sea.

2. PONTIANAK -sINTANG

   • Take a bus at 7 am and head for Sintang.

   • Stop for lunch in Sanggau, passing through the the Dayak villages.

   • Arrive in Sintang By 4. You still see traces of colonialism prevalent in the town structure.

3. Sintang Bukit Kelam

   • Visit Bukit Kelam, a dark hill situated in the countryside,along with the Handicraft Center in Yayasan Kobus (Kobus Foundation).

   • After return, you are free to spend the day at leisure. You can choose to travel around, experiencing the confluence of three major communities: Dayak, Malay and Chinese. 

4. SINTANG PTUSIBAU BUS RIDE

   • Continue the adventure, with a bus ride heading into the heart of Borneo Island.The route goes through plantation area and can veer off-road, depending upon the season.
     

5. Organizing permit

   • It is time to organize the entry permit for the National Park of Betung Kerihun. It is mandatory to employ local people to enter the territory.

   • Visit the Kedamin to experience living in Rumah Betang,a traditional House. 

   • Spend the evening at leisure/ exploring the surroundings.

6. Boat ride kedamin-nanga bungan

   • Take a boat upstream, on the Kapuas River, to reach Nanga Bungan. The duration of the journey may vary on the strength of current. It usually takes till midnight, to complete the distance.

   • Keep an eye out tattooed local women with stretched earlobes, fishing in the river. 

7. Nanga bungan tanjung lokang

   • Get an adrenaline rush as you encounter some difficult rapids on your way. This where the locals come into the picture, helping you steer your boat to safety.

   • Enter into a trance-like state as you marvel at the beauty of your surroundings.

   • At about midday, cross a settlement called Horori and stop for lunch.

   • Continue the journey to Tanjung Lokang.

8. TANJUNG LOKANG TAKE A BRITH

   • Experience the village of Punan Tribe, the smallest community among the Dayak Tribes.  The boat normally reaches Tanjung Lokang  by late afternoon. 

   • Spend the rest of the day in leisure- choose to explore the area or learn more about this fascinating tribe.

9. Jungle trekking part 1

   • Take up a challenging jungle trek that goes to the east for the next 6-7 days, guided by  a Punan Dayak Guide. The end destination is a Muara Ubung, a small village.

   • Walk through the primary rainforest, both up and down the hill of Muller Range, down to Muaraubung.

   • Spend the night in Tiong Ohang.

10. JUNGLE TREKKING PART 2

    •  Go deep into the jungle as you head for a session of fishing.
      

11. Jungle trekking 3

    • Continue your walk, crossing the border of West and East Kalimantan.

    • Stop to camp at the base of the Mueller range.

12. Jungle trekking part 4

    • Cross the last stretch of the border and head down to the East Kalimantan.
      

13. Jungle trekking Part 5

    • Spend another night camping in the jungle or continue with trek.
      

14. Jungle Trekking 6

    • Reach the destination of Muara Ubung, overnight in Tiong Ohang
      

15. Tiong ohang to ralax

    • Head down the Mahakam River to Long Bagun, in a speedboat. 

    • Relax in the evening.

16. Tiong Ohang to Long Bagun

    • Cross paths with Dayak Tribe again, in Long Bagun before proceeding to Tenggarong

    • Again, head down the Mahakam River on the houseboat- leave Long Bagun District at 7:30 AM.

    •  By 2:45 pm, arrive in Data Bilang.

    • At 5:30 pm arrive in Long Iram, and proceed to Mellak at 11:30PM

    • Spend the night in the houseboat. 

17. Long bagun - mellak

    • By 6:30 am, arrive in Kota Bangun, capital Kutai Barat Regency.

    • Proceed to Tenggarong, the capital of Kutai Kartanegara Regency. Tenggarong offers alternatives to stay and eat.

    • Visit Kumala Island.

18. Mela-samarinda

    • Explore the capital of Samarinda.
      

19. Samarinda - Balikpapan

    • Head from Samarinda to Balikpapan.
      

20. Balikpapan the petrolium city

    • Explore the petroleum city at your own pace.

21. Farewel to each other

    • Depart for home.
