About me

Hello and welcome to my hometown of Leicester the land of Cheese, Pork Pies and Foxes and Tigers. In 2016 I published my first book on Joseph Merrick, otherwise known as The Elephant Man and since then I have specialised in providing personalised, private tours of Leicester City Centre.Leicester is an extremely ancient city, probably one of the oldest in the country.A wide variety of restaurants, great shopping, museums, and galleries plus numerous local attractions which make Leicester a popular tourist destination with leisure and business visitors alike. If we look beyond the new shopping centres, fancy condos, and exquisite unique shops,  you will find a long history dating back to the Romans and probably earlier. The town was named Ratae Corieltauvorum– the walled place of the Coriani.Although only officially a City since 1919, the history of Leicester is rich and eventful, including the legend of King Leir (who according to the fable gave his name to the town of Leir-cestre and is buried in a vault under the River Soar), the knighting of King Henry VI in the Church of St Mary De Castro in Leicester’s Castle grounds during the Parliament of Bats in 1426, the Battle of Bosworth in 1485 where the town welcomed two kings in two days, the seize of Leicester in 1645, and more recently the re-interment of King Richard III at Cathedral Church of St Martin in March 2015.Leicester is secretly proud of its history. We do not shout it out from the ramparts, we just go about our business. This could be our downfall.Until Richard III was discovered I do not think many UK citizens knew were Leicester [sensitive content]2016, thirty-three tourists visited the city.  According to Sir Terry Wogan we were a "lost city." The former Radio 2 breakfast presenter made the comment in the 1980s when he said Leicester was often mentioned in traffic reports "but otherwise, unknown to mankind".

I worked as a Verger at the Leicester Cathedral for four years and during the week of the reburial of Richard III I was a member of the floral team responsible for the displays inside and outside the Cathedral assisting the Royal florist and I am now a volunteer tour guide and a member of the volunteer education team.As well as local radio interviews and newspaper articles relating to my research on Joseph Merrick, in April 2018 I appeared alongside Michael Portilloin his new documentary series'Hidden History of Britain' aired on Channel 5, worked with BBC Inside Out on the discovery of the final resting place of Joseph Merrick all which earned me a seat on the red sofa on BBC Breakfast.I adore my work and I am always delighted to be given the opportunity to share my enthusiasm with visitors to my beautiful City. Whatever your reason for coming to Leicester and however much or little time you have to spare; I would be delighted to tailor a walking tour that will help you discover the hidden history of Leicester.
