About me

Born and raised in Würzburg, Germany, I became interested in World War II history at an early age. After graduating from high school with a degree in history, I served in an armored division of the West-German Army. After military service, I studied marketing in the 1980s at Würzburg University, earned a master's degree, and subsequently worked in marketing and public relations for several large US companies for 30 years. A visit to the grave of my grandfather, buried in a German military cemetery in Normandy, sparked my particular interest in the Battle of Normandy and the decision to write a guidebook about the Allied landings, published in 2011.This book is available in English and German.Since 2012, I have been guiding groups of visitors to Normandy for the organisation Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge (German War Grave Association), and shortly thereafter I also began offering private tours in [sensitive content]addition to publishing the guidebook on the Normandy landings, I am also co-author of "Managing and interpreting D-Day's sites of memory - Guardian of remembrance" published in 2016.In the off-season, I lecture at the German Armed Forces Reservists Association (VdRBw) about the Battle of Normandy and offer virtual D-Day tours together with my friend Sean Claxton. In 2019, 2021, and in 2023 I had the pleasure of appearing on WW2 television’s YouTube channel* in the series "The Germans on D-Day"  , "Surrender in Cherbourg"  and "The German Cemetery at La Cambe, Normandy".

Transportation
  • I do not offer transportation, I offer "step on tours" where I will join you in your car. This means that you drive and I navigate while providing more general information about the Battle of Normandy between stops.Travelers often have a rental vehicle or their own car anyway, and hiring just a guide is by far less expensive than booking a guide and a vehicle. Moreover, it is advantageous when you have all your personal belongings, drinks, snacks, books and rain gear with you.
