Baby Elephants and Rothschild's Giraffes in Nairobi
Meet your tour guide at a pre-decided location in Nairobi and begin your tour.
Make your way to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust at 11:00 AM. See the youngest elephants come trotting out of the bush to greet their keepers, who stand ready with giant bottles of milk. For the next 10-15 minutes, you can watch each little one slurp and gargle its milk. Afterwards, you will have time to watch the elephants play.
Find out how old the elephants were when they arrived at the orphanage, where they were rescued, and what got them into trouble. The most common reasons for becoming orphaned are their mothers being poached, falling into wells, and other human-wildlife conflicts. Watch the elephants interact with their keepers, munch on branches of their favourite acacias, and play with half drums of water and mud.
Drive to the Giraffe Centre, where you can feed Rothschild's giraffes under the supervision of keepers. The centre has rescued, hand-reared, and released around 500 orphaned giraffes back into the wild since opening in 1979. This attraction offers the opportunity to feed the endangered Rothschild's giraffe by hand. The location also provides excellent education on these beautiful animals' physiology, behaviours, and habitat preferences.
