Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa
- Arrive in Addis Ababa and transfer to your hotel.
- Relax after your journey and prepare for the upcoming adventure.
Stay overnight at Saro Maria Hotel.
Day 2: Addis Ababa to Lalibela
- Take a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Lalibela.
- Explore the first group of the famous rock hewn churches.
- Learn about their historical and spiritual significance.
Stay overnight at Sora Lodge.
Day 3: Lalibela Churches and Monasteries
- Attend Ethiopian Orthodox mass if available.
- Visit the second group of rock hewn churches.
- Drive to nearby monasteries including Yemrehanna Krestos and surrounding sites.
Stay overnight at Sora Lodge.
Day 4: Return to Addis Ababa and City Tour
- Fly back to Addis Ababa.
- Explore museums and enjoy a city tour based on your preference.
Stay overnight at Saro Maria Hotel.
Day 5: Addis Ababa to Jinka and Turmi
- Take a flight to Jinka and continue by road to Turmi.
- Visit the Mursi tribe known for their lip plate tradition.
- Visit the Bena tribe along the route.
- Continue to Turmi and experience local tribal life.

Day 6: Hamar Tribe Experience
- Visit the Hamar tribe and learn about their customs and lifestyle.
- Witness the bull jumping ceremony if available.
- Engage with the Turmi community and observe daily life.

Day 7: Karo Tribe Visit and Return to Addis Ababa
- Travel from Turmi to visit the Karo village.
- Observe traditional body painting and riverside village life.
- Return to Jinka after the visit.
- Take a flight back to Addis Ababa.

Day 8: Addis Ababa to Semera to Afdera and Erta Ale
- Take a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Semera.
- Meet your guide and 4x4 team and drive to Lake Afdera.
- Visit the salt lake and observe traditional salt mining.
- Continue driving to Dodom base camp.
- Begin an early evening hike to Erta Ale volcano.
- Witness the lava lake if active.
Stay overnight camping near the crater.
Day 9: Erta Ale to Hamad Ela
- Enjoy sunrise at the crater.
- Descend back to Dodom base camp.
- Continue driving to Hamad Ela.
- Experience the remote desert landscape.
Stay overnight at a campsite in Hamad Ela.
Day 10: Dallol and Transfer to Hawzen
- Visit Dallol and explore colourful geothermal formations.
- See salt mountains and Lake Assale.
- Continue with an afternoon drive to Hawzen in the Gheralta region.
- Enjoy an optional sunset at a scenic viewpoint.
Stay overnight at Hawzen Vision Hotel.
Day 11: Hawzen to Aksum
- Drive from Hawzen to Aksum in the morning.
- Visit the stelae field and historical monuments.
- Explore the ruins of the Queen of Sheba’s Palace.
- Visit St Mary of Zion Church.
- Continue with an afternoon city tour of Aksum.
Stay overnight at Aksum Hotel.
Day 12: Tigray Rock Churches and Mekelle
- Travel to explore the Tigray rock churches.
- Hike to Abune Yemata Guh or other churches in the Gheralta region.
- Drive to Mekelle in the afternoon.
- Stop at Yeha Temple if time permits.
Stay overnight at Homeland Hotel.
Day 13: Mekelle to Addis Ababa
- Enjoy breakfast in the morning.
- Visit Debre Maryam Koror and Abba Daniel churches.
- Explore Mekelle city.
- Transfer to the airport and fly back to Addis Ababa.

Expect extreme heat in Danakil Depression reaching up to 45 degrees Celsius.

Carry light clothing hat and sunscreen for hot regions.

Prepare for cooler temperatures in Lalibela and Tigray with a light jacket.

Wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes.

Multiple internal flights are used to save travel time.

Luggage allowance is limited to approximately 20 kilograms plus hand luggage.

Stay in a mix of hotels lodges and camping sites.

Camping in Danakil is basic but safe and organised.

Meals include both local Ethiopian cuisine and international dishes.

Expect simpler meals in remote areas such as Danakil.

Ask permission before taking photographs of local tribes.

Dress modestly especially at religious sites.

Travel in remote areas is conducted with experienced guides and security.

Use 4x4 vehicles for desert and off road travel.
