The itinerary

Day 01

Overnight Mt. Sinai Climb and St. Catherine's Monastery

• The tour starts from Dahab at 23:00.

• On reaching Mt. Sinai, the climb begins at 02:00. The views of the stars on the ascent are spectacular, and the sunrise that you'll experience from the top is awe-inspiring.

• After seeing the sunrise, head on to St. Catherine's Monastery, which was constructed during the 5th century. The site was previously home to a 4th-century chapel built on the spot where Moses is said to have encountered God speaking to him from a burning bush. There is a frequently photographed bush on the site that is believed to have descended from the original.

• Reach Dahab at around 12:00 pm.

What to bring

• Please bring your passport, good hiking shoes, warm clothes, long trousers, sunglasses, sun lotion, drinking water, snacks/food, money for souvenirs or a camel ride, and a camera.

Know before you go

• The monastery is open from 09:00-12:00 daily except on Sundays and Christian Orthodox holidays, when it is closed, and on Fridays, when it is open from 10:30-11:30. Please check with us regarding availability on your trip.
• The monastery dress code requires all visitors, male or female, to have their arms and legs covered.
• Please note that regulations from the Egyptian government control the St. Catherine trip to help the Bedouin of Sinai. The government assigns Bedouin mountain guides to all tour groups. Consequently, we do not have control over which guide is assigned to you; the knowledge of English and the level of service may differ from one guide to another. Also, the government assigns drivers to tour groups travelling to St. Catherine.
