Itinerary
-
Day 1: Luxor East Bank
- Visit the great Luxor Temple on a 2-day tour in Luxor. The Luxor Temple stands on the east bank of the Nile River in Luxor (ancient Thebes) and dates back to around 1400 BCE. Unlike other temples in Thebes, it does not honor a cult god or a deified version of the pharaoh in death. Many pharaohs of Egypt celebrated the rejuvenation of kingship at Luxor, where they received their crowns in reality or conceptually. Alexander the Great said he wore the crown at Luxor, but Memphis, near modern Cairo, may have been his farthest south and the magnificent Karnak Temple of Amun with its famous Hypostyle Hall and the 134 huge columns, the Statue of Ramses II, the Obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut, and the Sacred Lake.
-
Day 2: Luxor West bank
- Your sightseeing in Luxor will include a visit to the West Bank (Thebes), where you will see the rock-cut tombs of the pharaohs and nobles from the New Kingdom in the Valley of the Kings.
- This valley, also known as the Valley of the Gates of the Kings, was the burial site for nearly 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC.
- You will also see Hatshepsut’s funerary temple, a masterpiece of ancient architecture. Pharaoh Hatshepsut of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt built this mortuary temple opposite Luxor city. Its three massive terraces rise above the desert floor and into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari at Deir el-Bahari and the Colossi of Memnon.
