Itinerary

1. Day 01: Welcome to Colombia! Arrival in Bogota

   • Begin your journey in Bogotá, Colombia’s dynamic capital, nestled high in the Andes at over 2,600 meters. With more than 8 million residents, this vibrant metropolis offers a rich fusion of history and modern life. 
   • Wander through La Candelaria’s colourful streets and colonial architecture, explore the world-famous Gold Museum, and take in stunning views from Monserrate Hill at 3,100 meters. 
   • Your adventure begins with a warm welcome and private transfer from the airport with an English-speaking guide. 

   Meals: None.

2. Day 02: Guatavita Lagoon & The Legend of El Dorado

   • Embark on a fascinating day trip from Bogotá to the mystical Guatavita Lagoon, the birthplace of the El Dorado legend. At over 3,000 meters above sea level, enjoy a gentle 1.5 to 2-hour hike through high-Andean forest and sub-páramo vegetation. 
   • Learn about the sacred rituals of the Muisca people, including gold offerings made by their gilded chief during ceremonies. 
   • Discover the lagoon’s allure that captivated Spanish conquistadors, who once attempted to drain it in pursuit of its treasures. 

   The tour includes transport, an English-speaking guide, and a brief visit to Guatavita.

   Note: The lagoon is closed on Mondays or Tuesdays after public holidays.

3. Day 03: Journey to Caño Cristales – The River of Colors

   • Begin your adventure with a private transfer to Bogotá Airport for your included flight to La Macarena. 
   • Upon arrival, receive an introduction to the Sierra de La Macarena National Park and its conservation efforts. 
   • Your Caño Cristales experience begins with a scenic canoe ride along the Guayabero River, where you'll spot diverse wildlife. 
   • A guided hike leads you to El Mirador, offering stunning panoramic views and a visit to Caño Cristalitos. Here, you'll enjoy a packed lunch and a swim among the vivid red aquatic plants, Macarenia clavigera, that give the river its iconic colours. 
   • End the day at La Manigua Lodge, with dinner and a chance to see monkeys from your cabin.

4. Day 04: Full-Day Exploration of Caño Cristales

   • After breakfast at La Manigua Lodge, begin your day with a canoe ride along the Guayabero River, followed by a 4x4 journey deep into the Sierra de La Macarena National Park. 
   • At the park's reception centre, a brief warm-up precedes a 30-minute hike to the awe-inspiring Caño Cristales. 
   • Accompanied by an expert guide, you'll follow one of the park’s designated trails, selected based on environmental conditions and group fitness. 
   • Enjoy a full day discovering the vibrant colours of this unique river, swimming in natural pools, and savouring a picnic lunch in nature. 
   • Return to the lodge for a relaxed evening with cultural activities and a riverside dinner.

5. Day 05: Sunrise Canoe Ride & Farewell to La Macarena

   • Begin your final day with a magical pre-dawn canoe ride along the Guayabero River. Drift through serene waters as the sun rises over the lush landscape. This tranquil experience offers a last chance to admire local wildlife, perhaps even a glimpse of the elusive pink river dolphins, or Toninas. 
   • After returning to La Manigua Lodge, enjoy breakfast and prepare for your departure. 
   • Depending on your flight schedule, there may be time for lunch before heading to the La Macarena airport. This day marks the close of your unforgettable journey to Colombia’s river of colours.

6. Day 06: Day Trip to Río Claro Nature Reserve

   • Discover one of Colombia’s most stunning natural gems on this full-day excursion to the Río Claro Nature Reserve, nestled in the lush mountains of the Eastern Andes. 
   • Accompanied by an English-speaking guide, explore the breathtaking marble river canyon with its crystal-clear waters and dense tropical rainforest. 
   • Relax on the serene river beaches, take in the peaceful sounds of nature, or opt for optional activities like zip-lining or hiking in the surrounding jungle. A perfect blend of adventure and tranquillity in a truly spectacular setting.

   Meals: Breakfast.

7. Day 07: Transfer to Medellín Airport & Departure

   • At the scheduled time, you will be transferred from your hotel to Medellín’s international airport for your outbound flight.
