5-Hour Etchmiadzin, Hripsime, Gayane and Zvartnots Experience
Depart from Yerevan and drive to Saint Hripsime Church. Visit the church founded in the 7th century by Catholicos Komitas I Aghtsetsi at the sepulcher of Saint Hripsime. Note its inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2000.
Continue to Etchmiadzin Cathedral. Learn about the vision of St. Gregory and the meaning of its name. Observe the 4th-century foundation and later 17th-century restorations with a three-tier bell tower and frescoes. Recognize it as the spiritual center of the Armenian Church. See relics including the Holy Lance, the Right Hand of St. Gregory, and pieces of Noah's Ark.
Proceed to Saint Gayane Church. Visit the 7th-century church built on a 4th-century chapel. Note its architectural importance. See the relics of Saint Gayane kept near the altar niche.
Drive to Zvartnots Cathedral. Explore the 7th-century temple known as “Temple of Vigil Forces”. Learn about its 20-year construction. Observe the ruins left after its destruction by an earthquake in the 20th century. Appreciate its remaining grandeur.
Return to Yerevan and conclude the tour.
