- Chepstow Castle is one of the finest Norman castles in Wales. High over the River Wye it is just across the River Severn from Bristol. This meant that it was a key stronghold for the Normans who had conquered England but not Wales. I will give you a guided tour, explaining all the different parts and talking about the people who built it and lived there.
- We then go to Tintern for lunch and to enjoy the beautiful setting of the Cistercian Abbey. We will be following in the footsteps of the first tourists in the 18th century and will also hear about the industry which thrived here once the monks were forced to leave and the abbey abandoned in the 16th century.
- Finally we head to Monmouth and will hear about some of its most famous characters. The highlight, however, will be the last remaining medieval gated bridge.
